We recently moved to rural WV, which I suspect is a lot like KY.

People are very conservative. They generally vote R in fed (with exceptions). State elections can go either way. Local elections are almost all D.

Part of it is tradition. Part of it is residual unionism. Part of it is there isn’t as much local Republican organization. People here are openly pro-life and openly Christian almost to a person.

It’s perplexing to an outsider. Having come from a D stronghold (Cleveland) I will say that the Democrats here are more conservative than the Republicans in NE Ohio.

For now, these rural areas are still pretty far removed from DC’s influence and I suspect that has a lot to do with the disconnect between the local Dems and the national party.

Am I telling the truth? Most of the women I know from that sect are kind of mean spirited - gossipers. Not all, but most.

Let’s see your fat butt before you cast aspersions on this woman. She went to jail for her beliefs - what have you done, lately?

Kentucky may have very conservative Democrats for all I know.

But, for them to vote D regardless of their reasoning is agreeing with abortion, gay marriage and removing of God from the platform - also not recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel - These people need to wake up

It doesn’t matter if this woman was The devil incarnate. The point is still the same. She was wrongly arrested and jailed.
I got some news for you if you are a Christian, they want you in jail as well they just don’t have the reason yet.
You need to reverse your cranial rectumous and understand what the issue really is and it is not Kim Davis.

They believe in Jesus - do they not believe in God? I’m reminded me of a Jewish friend who asked me why Christians never talked about God, only Jesus.

I hope to figure it out one of these days. We haven’t been there long enough to probe the details of many people’s political leanings yet.

For me it’s not about standing up for Kim Davis or anyone in particular. It’s about standing up for the rule of law and the Constitution and standing against the black-robed supremes overstepping their authority.

Exactly! My support for her isn't about who she is as a person it's about her legal standing under the Constitution and the government's ignorance and contempt of it.

You are dead-on right!

My in-laws are this type: County (Union) job keeps em strongly democrat yet, they are gun aficionados and gripe about how this country isn’t what it used to be! (Like during WW2 , when folks were decent...)

Try telling them that their beloved party caused the undesired changes and they’ll fight you to the death on how it was rich republicans who ruined everything in America over the years!

FYI per Breitbart Big Government

Davis has been divorced three times. One of her mothers-in-law was a devout Christian whose dying wish four years ago was for Davis to attend church. Davis explained in a statement that she started attending a Bible-believing church. “There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ.” She became a born-again Christian, remarried, became active in her church, and leads a Bible study at the local jail.

The ones I’ve met, both men and women are God fearing, hardworking, decent people. They’re business owners, contractors and professionals, one gentleman’s wife I met is an RN and very pleasant. Can’t speak to the gossip thing as I haven’t witnessed that.

They believe that Jesus is God the Father - not the Son. It’s rather complicated. Here is a quick summary.

You realize that a Democrat in that part of rural Kentucky is probably more conservative than 95% of the Republicans in Washington today, don’t you?

That's it, exactly. People who don't live there generally don't "get" the politics of Kentucky.

It's one of the, if not the, very last places where Zell Miller-style "Conservative Democrats" exist in numbers. In large part due to the strength of the state Democratic Machine and due to a yellow dog/blue dog style of long-term socialized loyalty.

This is why Democrats who present themselves as "Conservative" win state-wide elections, and hold the majority in the State Legislature, while the state (with the exception of uber-Progressive Louisville) goes overwhelmingly Republican in Presidential US Senate and US Rep elections. They actively brand themselves as "different" from their fellow, non-Kentucky, Democrats.

The problem facing Kentucky Democrats right now is that for all the strength of their machine and sense of loyalty to their state brand (but not national brand) the political situation in Kentucky is ceasing to be insular to a point where they can successfully avoid national controversies and differentiate themselves. That's why the Democratic Attorney General, who is the Democratic nominee for Governor, is refusing to indict Davis for dereliction of duty. It's also why the Democratic Speaker of the Majority-Dem State Legislature really, really, seriously wants the Governor to call a special session to provide legal cover to government officials like Kim Davis.

Din Maker, can you tell me what constitutional statute is applicable to the Kim Davis issue and shows that pro-gay activist justices wrongly legislated the so-called right to gay “marriage” from the bench?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

In an unintended sense, they are somewhat right. It WAS, in large part, rich (Liberal) Republicans that ruined our country - the RINO Rockefeller Republicans who were just as much in bed with government as any Democrat.

"She is the mother of twins, who were born five months after her divorce from her first husband. Her third husband is the biological father of the twins, who were adopted by her second husband, Joe, who is also her fourth and current husband."[32]

Sounds like a Jerry Springer "Cheaters" episode followed by a "Who's the Baby Daddy" episode on Maury Povich.

I believe that you have a very positive view of this whole situation. How can one very ordinary woman create such a stir? All she did was to take a stand based upon her faith.

And yet countless people are suspicious of her motivations. Their scepticism has poisoned this forum. As Christians we are faced with a deadly and steady onslaught from those who resist the power of religion. We rarely retaliate since that is not the way we respond. Many have this jaded,Elmer Gantry view of Christians, especially the Pentecostals, which I am one. Yet our strong faith should never be something we apologize for.
