Francesco Bove is lucky to be alive.

The 62-year-old artist was so viciously mauled by two pit bulls in the Bronx on Friday that a priest read him his last rites outside a church, CNN reported.

We have had persistent problems with dogs, in general, I our neighborhood, but by far the majority of problem dogs resulting in damage have been pit bulls. after two years, and multiple complaints to an HOA that is populated with liberal gay men who don't want to take any action that anyone would construe as "negative," we finally evicted the woman with the two pit bulls who had attacked multiple small dogs and then ultimately attacked a service dog. The owners by then had "been through the drill" and called animal controlon the service dog, which then lost its license!

Now we have another renter, with two pit bulls who have been getting increasingly violent. They have had multiple confrontations over the past year, but within the last 3 months have increasingly gone "red zone." They attacked a schnauzer that required emergency surgery. The little dogs owner was really lucky she escaped without injury, given she was able to quickly climb over the dog park fence with her dog. A week later, the pit owner's girlfriend had them both on leash and they pulled right out of her hands to attack a very old and blind Shih tzu that was walking past. And still the HOA hums and haws about evicting the guy.

we have another neighbor with a pit bull female who seems to be a wonderful dog. He has her so well-trained that she will sit on his front step, even when he is inside, and will not move even when I walk by with my dog and our cat, who follows us everywhere. She follows the cat with her eyes and you can see her wanting to chase with every fiber in her body, but she doesn't. But in my experience, this dog is an anomaly of the breed and most likely the result of an experienced owner who really knows what he is doing.

Thank you for your message.
It was hard watching Jesse the last few days. Wouldn’t eat or drink and walked like a zombie before he couldn’t stand anymore. God it hurts inside to think about this.

I love you people here.

A nice five or ten year prison sentence would suffice.

Yeh I know who you mean. I love dogs and I hate to go agains’t my total personal freedom creed but Pittbulls need to be banned. They are just not a companion breed.

I have 7 dogs; one of them is a pit bull, Billy is a good, gentle boy.
If any of my dogs (I love them all dearly) ever started to pull something like this; I would personally stomp them to death with a steel toed boot immediately.
I happen to believe that all dogs reflect the personalities of their owners.

I’m pretty sure Chet didn’t favor having French bulldogs destroyed.

About dogs generally identified as “pit bulls”, he couldn’t have been more right.

Don’t care what the argument was about; a person is responsible for controlling their lethal weapons; whether it is a gun, an axe, or a dog.
To all of you Pit Bull haters out there. ANY DOG CAN BE A LETHAL WEAPON, not just Pits.
One of my girls is an English Mastiff, she is gentle as a butterfly, her breed was bred for WAR.
Two of my others (one boy, one girl) were bred as stock protectors, to kill wolves and bears, both gentle and loving. All dogs are descended from wolves, carnivores, pack hunters, and killers.
To all dog owners; control your family members, you do not want to be put in the position of having to kill one of your own family members or have somebody else do it for you.

NO, CHET WAS WRONG!
I have one Pit Bull; any one of my other dogs could eat him alive if they took the notion to do so.
The only difference between a Pit and most other dogs is they have a powerful bite and don’t have any quit in them.
Strange; as such a merciless killer, Billy (the fearless bear hunter) was the only dog in my household that was willing to take care of the little bitty kitten I brought home from the pound.

Sorry, I cannot agree.
Pit bulls are a very unpredictable and dangerous animal.
Please be careful.

Until they attack a neighbor for no damned reason.

Hope you have adequate liability insurance.
Try $5 million, minimum. Check the cost for this coverage...

Ask the guy who writes your household coverage.

There is too much pit bull attack history from nearly every state. Consider the number of communities that have implemented an outright ban.

You must ask yourself; is there another method of protecting what I have ?

Dogs that are raised with kindness and affection do not attack people. Dogs that are raised by thugs who beat and torture them so that they may be used to fight other dogs and attack people are not so fortunate.

This applies to people as well.

What I have seen is that most dog owners just don't understand what they are dealing with when it comes to canines.
All wolves, coyotes, and dogs, are pack animals; in any pack there can only be one Alpha Male and one Alpha Female, all the rest are Beta's, or lower in the pack pecking order.
I live out in the middle of nowhere (nearest neighbor is 4 miles away); usually my pack is allowed to roam the property at their discretion, when I or my wife am out for a hike with them they are expected to stay within 30 to 50 feet of me or my wife at all times.
When the Alpha Male or Alpha Female snarls at them they know it is time to close up the pack and go home, all pack animals instinctively understand the pack hierarchy an know that is not to be violated without consequences. If any one is going to have dogs, they have to understand the genetic imperatives of the pack, and they had damned well better be the Alpha Male or Female. No; neither me nor my wife speak dog and they don't speak english, but tone of voice and some words are all that is needed to communicate your wishes.

*******************************************

As a former dog breeder, I can tell you that is simply not true. A vicious dog will produce vicious offspring.

There are many reputable dog breeders that think it is equally important to breed for both confirmation and temperament.
Especially, the breeders of large breeds.

That was the climate I grew up in. However, that was then and this is now. Now, human life, beginning with unborn and partially born babies is the least valued. Today, unborn and partially born babies are being slaughtered with an efficiency that the Third Reich could only dream about. And most people do not care. However, give the mane of a lion named cecil a dirty look and all hell breaks loose. Times have changed.

I disagree, some dogs are mean from the time they are puppies. I bought a West Highland White Terrier, and that dog was growling and snappy at us by the time he was 6 months old. By the time he was a year old he had bitten everyone in the family . he was bad to the bone and was never mistreated.

I had a JRT that was a mean little dog too but not as bad as the Westie. Neither of those dogs had been mistreated.
