A Massachusetts company says spraying live bacteria on your skin is all you need to keep clean.
I have not taken a shower in over 12 years, Dave Whitlock said.
Whitlock, a chemical engineer and MIT grad, says he doesnt miss bathing at all.
No one did clinical trials on people taking showers every day. So whats the basis for assuming that that is a healthy practice? Whitlock said.
In fact, what Whitlock does believe is healthy is restoring good bacteria to our skin that our ancestors enjoyed long ago bacteria thats been slowly stripped away by excessive cleaning.
To prove his theory, Whitlock helped found Aobiome, a company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Weve confused clean with sterile, Jasmina Aganovic said.
Aganovic, also an MIT grad, says as humans, we need to reconnect with our environment.
Weve taken the dirt out of our lives. We dont spend as much time outdoors as we used to even as little children, Aganovic said.
To add a little dirt back into our lives, Aobiome has created Mother Dirt specifically the AO+ mist containing live bacteria thats sprayed directly on the skin twice a day. It has no odor, and feels like water.
Our users are able to reduce their dependence on conventional products. Examples include cutting out or cutting down on deodorant, cutting out or cutting down on moisturizers, Aganovic said.
Theres a Mother Dirt shampoo and cleanser that doesnt contain bacteria, but Aganovic says it wont interfere with it either.
While Whitlock still doesnt shower, he does use Mother Dirt every day and hopes the rest of the world will join him.
I would like a billion people a day to use this, Whitlock said.
While Aobiome officials believe in the health benefits of these live bacteria, theyre not making any scientific claims right now.
ICK!
Gramps was onto something.
There was a Life magazine article from the late 1940s, on surviving Civil War vets, and one of the guys had a full head of thick, black hair.
They asked him what the secret was. He said, “Don’t never wash it!”
Not the best pick-up line in the world.
There’s no way a spray of any sort (well maybe Muriatic acid) could clean me up after a long day of yard work. Gads, what this must do to his clothes!
I’m not bothered by getting dirty or even dropping food and eating it anyhow—if didn’t drop in too disgusting of a spot. Dirt is good but darn it, people need a good scrub after hard work.
I do have to bathe in oatmeal in the winter instead of always showering— I get terrible itchy dry skin. But not bathing? Psssh this guy is nuts!
.
One need not spray them; just stop killing them with useless chemical concoctions.
Skin infections don’t happen if you don’t use strong soaps or anti-bacterials.
.
Has anyone asked those who have to work and live around him if they "miss" him not bathing for 12 years?
May be an interesting prepper ping.
LOL!!!!
I’m guessing we are talking stinky boo boo. :-)
Gramps became one of General Pershing’s show—chau—drivers later in WWI. Not everyone drove back then, but he did.
I believe he adopted a, uh, more natural lifestyle later in life.
Grandma didn’t allow him to go to church that way though, so I’m guessing he spruced-up on Sat. night.
I'll see that "single" and raise you a "virgin". 😀
NEWPORT?! Isn’t that the fragrance from Caswell Massey that’s all floral & flowery?
The guy looks like a real Don Juan.....
Dang. He just beat my record.
I don't know that anyone said it was necessarily healthy. But it is definitely required for social interaction. And most women will not tolerate their men not smelling clean. But I totally agree with this statement:
Weve taken the dirt out of our lives. We dont spend as much time outdoors as we used to even as little children."
The article is a commercial for this:

I can take a lot of showers for $49.00.
[...specifically the AO+ mist containing live bacteria thats sprayed directly on the skin twice a day.]
Does it kill dust mites, they clean our skin 24/7/365.
