“dropped the “Gay Bond” idea? “
In the shower, and everybody in Hollywood wants to pick it up...

Fleming once said or wrote that he pictured Bond as looking like Hoagy Carmichael.

There were other 00 spies. Why not just introduce a completely new character using 007 as a bridge to introduce the character? Seems a huge mistake to screw up a character that’s been around for 50+ years.

I'd rather have the Honor Blackman / Ursula Andress / Jill St. John argument again, myself...
Ms. Blackman wins of course, but still...

I didn’t know that. Interesting. Hoagy Carmichael was closely tied to Indiana University and Ian Fleming left all of his material to the IU Lilly Library. I have to wonder if IF had a special affinity for IU. I spent a summer 40 years ago reading all of the Bond novels and studying Fleming’s material at the Lilly, including his non-Bond stories.

I have to disagree. The Craig films are the only ones I have really enjoyed. Some of the older films are embarrassingly campy and do not age well.

Ian Fleming Never Mentioned James Bonds Ethnicity....
Gee, ya think because he wrote it when British men were all white males?

I remember how disappointed I was after seeing “Band Of Brothers”, not a single Brother in the whole movie! I thought it was going to be a Soultown revue. What a Gyp!

The name is familiar to me but I actually don’t know what Hoagy looks like. I assume he is White tho.
Now Fleming did describe Felix Leiter as red headed. I guess that means Redd Foxx should play him.

Let's see, Ian Fleming described Bond as half-Swiss and half-Scottish AND he commissioned this sketch of him:
His ethnicity seems pretty clear to me.

What a dumb column. Ian Fleming was a secret agent during WWII. Fleming was Bond, as he fantasized him.
To: ilgipper
Daniel Craig is perfect. I really think he's as good as Connery.
Idris Elba is a great actor. I would love to have him in any of my feature films (when they get made :). But not Bond. It's like trying to cast an Asian as Annie Oakley. Leave some things alone.
