Texas TV Station Criticized by Sheriff’s Department for Posting Video of Deputies...Killing man

CNN affiliate KSAT broadcast his video, which is disturbing, as it shows Flores being shot.

In it, Flores is shirtless, running in front of a home in San Antonio as the two sheriff’s deputies approach him as they investigate a domestic violence call.

“As the guy and police were going back and forth, the man acted like he was going to run back inside his house and then ran around the cars by the cop car, and the cops started pursuing closer to him,” Thomas told CNN.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has said Flores had a knife and was resisting arrest when deputies approached him.

“He put his hands in the air and then he had his hands up for a few seconds and the cops shot him twice,” Thomas told CNN.

Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said of the video: “It’s among many pieces of evidence that we are collecting to determine what happened.”

The video is shot from across street, so it’s difficult to see Flores and impossible to hear the conversation between the officers and the suspect.

Flores steps behind a sheriff’s SUV and cannot be seen at times. The only audio that was captured was that of the gunshots and Thomas’ reaction.

Though it’s clear Flores has one hand up, the other is briefly obscured by a utility pole.

The deputies had their weapons trained on Flores throughout the encounter, Thomas said.

He opened his arms and stepped toward the two deputies before taking a few steps back, Thomas said.

Police say he was resisting arrest.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office tweeted a statement that said “broadcasting a man’s death for $100 sparked threats to our deputies’ lives. Let KSAT know what you think.”

A government agency attacking the press? There oughta be an Amendment against that.

Based on the man's posture/"body language" - his shoulders appear level, and his head & torso appear straight and in line with each other, eyes front - I would conclude that he was holding both arms in more or less the same position, and that he probably had both hands in the air when he was shot.

The power pole does, indeed, do an excellent job of obscuring a goodly portion of the left side of his body, though, so there is no way to tell for sure.

Still not enough information available, though, and I was not there, so...

As the article states there is a 2nd video that is much closer and has a better angle. It has been described as “troubling” as well by a police spokesman. I am betting that if the guy had a weapon they would have released that video by now.

Because if they truly shot an unarmed man we should defend the cops for illegal activity? Your thinking is troubling.

No, but if they truly shot an unarmed man it should be handled by proper authorities through proper channels.

Not by a media-genertaed mob.

After watching that video, it’s pretty clear those cops just murdered that man. He was standing still with his hands in the air. If you or I had pulled the trigger, we would be arrested and charged immediately based upon that video footage.

You mean their co-workers? And if this video didn’t exist and wasn’t broadcast, what do you think the narrative would be? I’m betting it would be “he was coming right for us”. And it would be believed, hook, line and sinker.

How about they don’t post the video until the dept. has a chance to prosecute their own. If anyone actually ever sees the cover-up, they sitll have the video.

Your assumptions that all cops are rotten is the kind of thinking that’s getting them ambushed.

You can bet if they knew someone was videoing them, they’d have confiscated the phone and wiped it clean.

It looks to me like they shot him in cold blood.

Your suggestion that cops might not respond for certain citizens when their widdle feelings are hurt might be a reason that some are ambushed.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant to corruption. If this video wasn’t brought to light, you would see, at best, 10-12 months of “it’s an ongoing investigation” before quietly being ruled as “justified”. Only cockroaches fear the sight of the sun.

Not only would it have been confiscated, they’d have been charged with “interfering with a police officer” or “resisting arrest” if they refused to hand over their phone.
