The clerk is wrong. That was the whole point of "rendering unto Caesar". We walk simultaneously in the world of man and the world of God. What we need to do in walk in the world of man is not counted against us, within reason.

It seems someone only wants to prove who is the more devout among her circle of friends and family. Ooops, did I just say that?

No, the judiciary is a contemptible and corrupt network of shysters. This is not the time of Caesar.

"Rendering unto Caesar" applies to money, specifically taxation.

There is no way God's word would sanction government-forced abortion because "Caesar says so". Nor is any quarter given for sanction of sodomistic unions in God's word. We can see God's opinion of such aberrant behavior in Genesis, throughout the OT, and in Romans 1.

People with homosexual tendencies need help, yes, compassion, yes, but affirmation of their tendencies? Absolutely not. For their bodies' and souls' sake, no...

Why the heck are you a conservative if you think courts can just dictate how we obey our conscious? I assume you are since you signed up to comment on a conservative forum. Read John Locke: know what conservatism is. It’s. Conservatism is just a good idea. It’s the way things are.

I have no problem seeing it from that perspective.

However what’s going on here is MUCH more complex than the simple refusal of a governmental official to fulfill a task assigned to her.

For instance, my understanding is that a marriage license issued anywhere in KY is valid anywhere in KY (do I have that right?). These folks are deliberately targeting her because they know she’ll refuse. They can go to the next County over and get a license, today, if the so chose to.

So it’s easy to conclude that it’s not enough for them to get married, they ALSO want making a Christian violate her beliefs and conscience to be part of their sacred union.

Now thats extraneous to the legal issues here involving performance of her official duties. But it certainly should be part of the discussion about what’s, in the larger sense, really going on.

And will your support for same sex marriages be the same when Caesar demand you sign a loyalty oath in support of queer marriage or lose you private sector job?

"Obey the Law or Resign". Is that it? Is that what you'd have the clerk do? You'd have made a fine Nazi. After all - they too were only following the law as they sent millions of Jews to their deaths.

She is obeying Kentucky law, as she is sworn to do.

The whole "rendering unto Caesar" is misunderstood. Tell me: what is not God's? Money? God says:

"The gold and the silver are mine" - Haggai 2:8.

In the final analysis, nothing is Caesar's. Everything is God's. He holds the deed to the Universe. When Caesar tries to force us to his will instead of God's, God himself tells us to refuse.

"We must obey God rather than men" - Acts 5:29.

Perhaps you think this woman should leave her job because of her Christian convictions. Would you like every believing Christian to walk away from every government job that forces them to compromise their faith? I don't think you would like our nation with a government of only non-believers.

Better she should stand and fight. I support her 100%. She is standing up for God.

“That was the whole point of “rendering unto Caesar”.”

Perhaps this might help?

Mark 12 17
“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

2 Corinthians 11
23- Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
24- Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;

The clerk is wrong.

No you are wrong. You could not be more wrong!

The Supreme Court decision did not change Kentucky law, it voided it. The LAW in Kentucky regarding marriage is that in order to get a marriage license the applicant must be two adults of the opposite sex who are not immediately blood related. The Kentucky statute that authorizes the county clerk to issue marriage licenses to anyone does not authorize her to issue a license to same sex couples. If the Supreme Court determined that the Kentucky statute was unconstitutional, then the county clerk cannot issue any marriage license at all. She isn’t. She is currently obeying the law by not issuing licenses because she currently has no authority to do so.

Your position is one that gives the Supreme Court LEGISLATIVE POWER which it does not have. Forcing this clerk to issue marriage licenses is an unconstitutional act. The court has no power to require a county clerk to violate an existing Kentucky Statute and if the statute is void, then it has no power to make up some statute that requires the state to issue marriage licenses in accordance with a void statute.

I get pretty sick and tired of people on this forum saying that this clerk needs to follow the law or quit her job. SHE’S DOING HER JOB!!!! Her job is to follow the statutory law and right now there isn’t one.

Unless and until KENTUCKY passes a law re-authorizing the issuance of marriage licenses, no clerk in Kentucky should be issuing marriage licenses to anyone.

If you disagree, then show me the currently existing statute that authorizes county clerks in Kentucky to issue marriage licenses to anyone.

The problem is not that the clerk is not following the law, THE COURTS ARE MAKING UP THE LAW. THEY HAVE NO AUTHORITY TO DO SO!!! If anyone should be quitting their jobs, it is the judges!!!!
