The 52-year-old officer was on the cusp of retirement when he was killed, according to Ahern of the 100 Club of Chicago, who says Gliniewicz planned to retire last month but the police chief asked him to stay one extra month to help out.

Gawd that sounds like a war story...

I feel very sorry for the police chief. Am sure he is thinking that if he had not asked the officer to remain on duty for that extra month he would still be alive.

How sad this is. I can imagine how the chief must feel too. And the officer...to serve for so long and get that close to his much earned retirement...life is not fair :(

What where these guys doing that was so criminal one of them felt it worth taking the life of another person, and a cop at that, guaranteed life in prison...so much anger, impulsiveness, and stupidity in human beings today.
