Did we see any aviators in the Navy refuse to wear their insignia as a result of the Cary Lohrenz or Kara Hultgren?

I am not familiar with the issues with Cary Lohrenz or Kara Hultgren by name. That said, I assume you mean they became carrier-qualified Navy pilots and were somehow granted their wings under dubious conditions....I see it as an equal comparison.

As an outsider looking in on the Navy pilots, it appears there is a simple objective test that Naval aviators pass on a very routine basis: They have to land on friggin aircraft carriers!

On the other hand, a Ranger tab is more like earning a black belt. Anyone can wear one, and you can spend an entire lifetime without ever having the opportunity to prove you earned it through actions in a real fight. It is only when that time comes and you have to square off against a bad guy in a real fight that it becomes clear whether you earned it in a real Dojo, or obtained it through lessons at McDojo’s. The political fight over the Ranger program was all about keeping it as a real Dojo where warriors learn real skills or letting it be turned into a McDojo where everyone can get a black belt to build their self-esteem. I believe Odierno kept it from being turned into a McDojo.
