I thought the first episode of Fear was very boring, but even worse, showed the same sort of sloppiness that has made Walking Dead hard to enjoy. I'll give you an example:
The son fights with the drug dealer for the gun and kills him. Then he runs up the tunnel to call his stepdad. The parents drive over, pick him up, drive back through the tunnel, park the truck in the tunnel mouth, and go look for the drug dealer. They don't find him, but as they go to get back in the truck, they see zombie drug dealer shuffling toward them from WITHIN the tunnel.
How did the zombie get through the tunnel without the son, or the parents ever seeing him? The zombie drug dealer would have walked to the same location as the son as he made the phone call, and to the same location that the parents picked him up. Somehow, either zombie drug dealer was invisible, or he was hiding. I suspect the guys making the show just thought that a scene with the zombie coming down the tunnel would be so cool, man, they never gave a thought to how impossible it was.

I could give an explanation that works, but I do agree with your statement about lazy writing. On Walking I often have to bite my tongue to ignore the dumb, or lazy writing. I look past to find entertainment.
