You’ve got a segment of the population that is suggestable, incitable, tends toward violence, and has low impulse control. And, you have a number of public figures getting them excited—inciting them to violence as a path to excitement and betterment. This sort of dialogue doesn’t influence sane people, but it can have a dramatic effect at the fringes.
I’m reminded of the scene in John Carpenter’s “Prince of Darkness” (great movie) where the Devil is awakening, and the normally disorganized homeless people outside are becoming organized and angry under the crescent moon.
