Animated series to feature transgender actress, lead character

A new animated comedy will make history when it launches later this year as the first animated series to feature a transgender character in a lead role that is also voiced by a transgender actress, Julie Rei Goldstein. The series, Gen Zed, is about four college-age individuals who come together through the online gaming community and decide to move into a tiny studio apartment in downtown Los Angeles together.

It is being written and produced by Hayden Black, who is known for the award-winning and critically lauded show Goodnight Burbank. The series has a slew of popular Hollywood names attached to it, including Richard Schiff, of the West Wing; Jane Wiedlin, from the Go-Go's and Star Trek; Miracle Laurie, from Dollhouse; and Matthew Del Negro, of Scandal.

Black said there are many transgender icons involved in the project, including Jenna Talackova, model and TV personality; Trace Lysette, from Transparent; models Peche Di and Arisce Wanzer; and stand-up comedian and Transparent actor Ian Harvie.

This whole sham demonstrates the paucity of the make-believe world of “transgender.” How can one draw a transgender character and make it known that it’s not REALLY a female but a man POSING as a female, except to draw it with subtle male characteristics (a five o’clock shadow, thick forearms, coarser features ...). If the artist drew the character as a woman, viewers would think it’s ... a woman! So the artist has to demonstrate that it’s really NOT, thereby proving the idiocy of this whole premise.

This is exactly what I was thinking. You have to deliberately make it look like a disgusting He/She to get the point across. If you make it look like a woman, there will be no way to tell that it is supposed to represent a nutcase He/She.

You have to put int characteristics which the He/She doesn't want, just as you pointed out.

I don’t think they’ll be showing this Saturday mornings (if they still show cartoons on Saturday mornings) or how popular “adult swim” type cartoons are with kids.

He sounds like a man, dresses like a girl, and announces he’s a tranny (I only use that word because those freaks don’t like it). Another girl character was approving of that. So, GiBLeTs are attempting to program children.
