First I got a request for a recommendation for a good night vision gear. Second request was for a good solar generator set-p.

The first thing to consider is the type of NVG or NOD is needed? Weaponsight? night driving NODs? A pocket-type night vision viewer? or an all out thermal vision FLIR device...and note that the unit better suited for use on the ground out in the woods may not be the best unit for a boater or aviator, or for a caver not inclined to wander into a dark hole with a bright white light shouting *Here I come!*

Same deal with solar genny setups. But in general, I prefer many small less expensive solar units to one big multiwatt rig with a controller and inverter.

Yeah, I didn’t think so. There’s no rubber seal. Thanks for the confirmation!

I don’t like beans that are “intact” for want of a better word. I like them squashed, gooey and creamy. But I also don’t want to waste time and fuel.
To get them creamy ASAP, I boil the water FIRST, before putting in the beans.
(I quickly rinse the beans in a separate bowl, and pour this rinse water out.)
When the water in the pot is at a rolling boil, I dump the clean beans into the BOILING water. This sudden heat shocks the beans. Then quickly cover with a lid, and turn off the heat, but leave the pot on the same burner. Let the beans soak in the hot water for an hour.
Then add more water, and proceed to cook.

Marcella, next time I cook beans I will definitely combine my soaking method with your oil, salt and 30 minute cooking method.
As for seasonings, I’m partial to onions, tomatoes, turmeric, paprika and cayenne. Heck, why not bell pepper and a handful of fresh spinach, too.

I like coconut oil. It’s a little pricier, but I’ve had some for about 3 years that’s still good. Anything tastes good cooked in it, especially stir fry. A teaspoon in morning coffee is magic for the digestion.

Zinc ointment has always been my go-to for burns.

Coconut Oil, how was it stored? (Long Term)
Refrigerated? Canned? if so in Metal, Glass, Plastic?
I too love Coconut Oil, My Ex fed it to me in many ways (Pinoy)

It’s in a plastic container with a lid. I refrigerate it, which keeps it thick and waxy.

Yep ... Wonder how to store it in warm climates without refrig.

I think Fat and Oil will be the “I’ll trade you Ammo for that” item, you need it, it doesn’t keep and hell nothing tastes good without it.

I will stay on my search

Yep, forgot to say, I used to put a dollup in my Coffee and a couple scrapes of Nutmeg ... I got tired of the Nutmeg, never tired of the coconut oil.

Without refrigeration it liquefies and will keep for awhile, but not for over a year.

Anything with acid such as tomatoes should be added after the beans are cooked, if you like them mushy. The acid interfers with softening the beans.

I like them firm and I like them mushy. Long as they are beans. I also like Pinto beans with just salt as well as lots of different seasonings and stuff.

Soaking overnight works just as well as the quick method, and saves fuel too. Since the water doesn’t have to be hot. It also improves the availability of nutrients, so if I have time, I use it. If not, then I use the quick boil method, and let the beans sit covered on the hot burner too.

There is no right or wrong way to cook beans, unless you boil them dry and scorch them - that doesn’t work. LOL

Zinc ointment is a great thing for many sorts of skin problems, but it can’t hold a candle to butesin picrate when it comes to burns.

Zinc ointment beats many other things that are one the market today.

Our Costco had one I didn’t want either. Go to foodsaver.com and type in Model V4865. The kit I got is still offered. 199.00 free shipping. Sealer, bags, extra stuff. When I did my research it was the best buy. Offer still good til the end of this month. I bought the wide mouth lid sealer in addition. I use both. They have a set of 3 cannisters that I looked at then I found them in my local store for clearance so I got them too. Use them for daily use flour and nuts. Although I wouldn’t have bought them at the regular price.
