Since the first break in, the homeowners installed several security cameras. He should have invested in a good safe.

Security cameras with motion detection and automatic uploads to remote servers are some of the most valuable additions to home security. A custom firearms safe is another one. I haven’t seen a good one in any store (too easy to cut through). A vault with layers of abrasive resistant (AR) plate and concrete would be better, especially with a good commercial, very heavy duty, mechanical combination lock and bolts.

found that the suspect had likely walked to the home. I have a hard time believing he then walked away with 6 weapons and 1,500 rounds... unless it was all .22 long rifle stuff.

Reads like a false flag.
Also is that a Hi-Point? Really?
If so, maybe the guy did buy a safe, but it’s on lay-away.

People that stupid (not putting guns in a safe when out) should not be owning guns.

6 guns and 1,500 rounds of ammunition is an arsenal. (s)
