NBC News Election Night 1980
youtube ^ | 11/8/2014 | memoryretro

The United States presidential election of 1980 was the 49th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 4, 1980. The contest was between incumbent Democratic President Jimmy Carter and his Republican opponent, former California Governor Ronald Reagan, as well as Republican Congressman John B. Anderson, who ran as an independent. Reagan, aided by the Iran hostage crisis and a worsening economy at home marked by high unemployment and inflation, won the election in a landslide, receiving the highest number of electoral votes ever won by a non-incumbent presidential candidate.

I have a feeling that November 2016 election night results will be similar to 1980.

Our side will win in a landslide.

I still remember the news saying the race was “too close to call” the day before the election.

They have been much more accurate in the last few years.

Notice the map behind the moderators.
Back then, the GOP states were blue.
The Dem states were red.

As it should be.

Actually, back then they used red for incumbents and blue for challengers regardless of party.

Weren’t they saying “too close to call” even after Carter conceded? I know the libs in the media were livid he conceded even before the polls were closed in CA and the west.

I remember that, too! And I believe it was intentional on the part of the media, so as to encourage the rats to get out and vote.

I prefer Cruz but I'll take Jeb over Hillary or Sanders or any other Dem.

I lived in Santa Barbara, California at the time, and the race was called around 3:00 PM Pacific time or thereabouts.

By the time I got to my polling place, the election had been called. The lady at the polling station was unhappy the media called the race, but it was all I could do to not burst out laughing, singing and dancing.

Jeb was not that bad a governor but I have made a vow to myself. “I will never vote for another Bush” no matter what.

I was 5 years old that night, and I distinctly remember being at my grandparent’s house, with a TV on a stand that had been brought in for the occasion (my grandparents, in general, did not have TV 24/7 - it was for special occasions only) sitting in the living room, across from the table setting that had all manner of finger sandwiches, chips, soda pop, etc. I remember we were up until almost 3 in the morning. I could not, for the life of me, understand WHY they had allowed me to stay up so late, nor WHY my grandfather kept telling me to remember this night, it’s historic. I registered to vote for the first time in 1993...and I immediately knew WHY.

I remember that night. George McGovern and I were running in a dead heat. He edged me by 3 electoral votes at the end.

I think Donald Trump will win. Ted Cruz will be the VP.

Ted does not have the name recognition as Trump. No way that Hillary Clinton can make it as she is so crooked that the news media cannot hide it any longer plus she is really ugly inside and out and you have to be young at heart and be an up person which she and McCain certainly are not.
The polls showing higher number for her are as fake as the unemployment rate.

The people we have running for president is the direct result of the corrupt news media. We could do so much better then those running for any office. When you have to read a British or Canadian news site to get news about America shows how pathetic the US media is in every way.

Would You Try This: Banish Puffy Undereyes with Preparation H

“In 1978, Carter had to leave a Christmas party for White House staffers “to receive emergency treatment” for a painful hemorrhoid that left him “almost completely incapacitated from participating in any kind of public events” 1a.

For the first and only time during his Presidency, Carter cancelled all his scheduled events for the next day. He was given an injection of Demerol and slept at least part of that day. It was difficult for Carter to walk 1a.

The problem was successfully concealed from the public — for a time. On Christmas Eve, however, President Anwar Sadat of Egypt “announced to the world that his good friend Jimmy had hemorrhoids and made a public appeal for all Egyptians... to pray on this holy day that I would be cured. ... The day after Christmas, for the first time in weeks, all the pain and discomfort went away. I was tempted to make a public announcement thanking people of all faiths for their prayers, but decided that we’d had enough publicity about my ailment. In any case, I’ve never received a better Christmas gift or felt more grateful for personal benefits that resulted from a nation at prayer” 1a.

Carter mentions that he was “first afflicted” with hemorrhoids as a young submarine officer, “but this time it was much worse than ever before” 1a. It therefore appears this was a recurrent problem for him.”
