What was America's greatest year; America's apogee.

Posted on 08/18/2015 8:08:48 PM PDT by grumpygresh

Now that Obama has largely fulfilled his objective putting America on a trajectory of irreversible decline, it's time to assess when America was at its greatest. Was it 1945, the year America won WW2, or perhaps 1969 with the Moon landing? Or perhaps a year in the 1950s.

Between 1989 and 1991:

1989 — When the Berlin Wall fell
1991 — When we won the Gulf war

It’s all been downhill after we elected Slick Willy.

Any year in the late 50s.

Optimism reigned.

1789, the year that Washington was inaugurated. It’s been downhill ever since.

That’s my call. Or early 80s when Ronnie made people proud to be American again after Carter.

Charlie Daniels summed it up pretty well when RR was on the horizon...

But if Trump is elected, it might be 2016.

1908, the last year the Cubs won the World Series.

The day Ronald Reagan was inaugurated. I watch that and then took the kids to town. The skies were filled with jet trails. Our military was strong and empowered.

I say it’s easily 1945. No other year comes close in my estimation. I can understand an argument for 1989 and the fall of the Iron Curtain but 1991? That little dust up was nothing compared too winning the greatest, most bloodiest and most consequential war ever fought.

1897. Gold standard, no income tax, no multiculturalism, no respect for popery amongst thinking people. Then in 1898, we decided to build an Empire in the Third World.

Second best would be 1986, when the Mets won the series and nobody cared about that other team.

Our greatest gift to the human race was 1789 when we signed the Consttution, so I’ll pick that as our greatest year.

Somewhere in the first half of 1962 was the actual peak, somewhere around the time Glenn orbited the earth. It was the apex of post WWII optimism in the United States.

Think about what follows: Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy assassination, Vietnam, Watergate, Oil Shock, Economic Malaise, Cocaine (yes, I know it was around earlier, I mean the boom), Iran Hostage Crisis, AIDS.

Then came Reagan, but I see that as a major uptick in a downward slide. An incredible uptick, but a short-term peak.

Then we get Bush I, Clinton not having sex with that woman Miss Lewinsky, Hillary, Bush II, 9/11, Legislative gridlock, the Republicrat Uniparty, and ultimately culminate with Obama (what a trough).

I am going to say somewhere in the area of 1960-62. The country was so full of promise with a new generation coming of age, post WWII. Somewhere, we took the wrong fork in the road and things have gotten worse since.
