I hope, pray and live for that day.

Unlike most normal pet owners, my passel of critters will be *seriously* “varied”.

:D

Totally get it.

Arthur was milk chocolate brown and Merlin was dark chocolate brown.

They were so bonded to each other that I was sort of an afterthought, although both of them came to my defense, when necessary.

When Merlin passed away, Arthur was bereft.

He lived to be 14+ and we spent his remaining years trying to make up for her absence but I don’t think we really did.

I was heart broken for myself, when he finally passed but knowing that they were together again cushioned the blow.

If I could have anything in the world, I would want my box of hundreds of photos back.

In that shoe box were pix of every critter I ever had, including all the rescue Dobes.

It was my most precious possession and I think my ex took it, knowing it would crush me.

I wish I had it back.

I can see them so very clearly and dearly in my mind’s eye but I cannot share them with others.

:(

Am I seeing the recessive white mark on his chest?

Seven has that, too.

It pops up now and again, especially in European Dobes.

:)

Barely, but it's there. We originally wanted a black/tan but the litter mom laid down and killed 4 of her 6. We had choice of boy or girl. He was more active than his sibling, and seemed to take to us from the start.

I live in the Philippines now, Davao City. Dogs of all types pass by daily on their walks. EVERYBODy has at least one. One neighbor (thankfully a couple of blocks away) has more than 30, mostly chihuahuas. I never liked the type as they are truly "ankle biters". Cadbury is well liked due to our making him friendly, and limited aggressive behavior to barking at passersby. Most who see him remark at his nature.

He's a replacement for my Dalmatian I left behind! Great dog, asleep now on my bed!!!

You just barely see hers, here.

It's shaped like a 7 and the kennel knocked $1000 off her price because of it, even though it's perfectly acceptable in the show ring, still.

White patches on Dobe chests is a recessive trait passed down from their Beauceron heritage.

Once in a *great* while, you will see a Dobe sporting a heavier, almost-Beauceron coat.

Genetics are a trip. :)

Cats, too. My Beanie Cat was put down last week, age 20. A very good cat through tough times and good. Never complained. Never any trouble. Always a friend. He just wore out.

Just happened on this thread. I lost my 13 year old Doberman on Monday and my heart is broken. She was the best dog I have ever had. Thanks for posting this piece, it is a consolation.
