I hiked with my wife and kids 12 miles down to the Havasupai Indian Reservation in the Grand Canyon 10 years ago. I didn't drink enough water and could hardly walk when I got to the campground at the bottom. I found a shallow creek in the shade and laid in it for over an hour drinking from my water bottle. I finally recovered enough to get back to camp but I was in bad shape from dehydration. The hot sun and heavy activity drained my resources quickly, as I learned the hard way.

I didn't make the same mistake on the hike back up out of the canyon. I drank a quart of water in the morning before we started and another quart on the hike. I felt much better when I finished than I had four days before on the hike down.

I've decided that white suburban gals are a different gender ... you might call them trans-gender.

Spanish speakers just aint into whitey ... from what I see, so maybe the non-Spanish Caribbeans are worth a look. Remind myself that not all black girls are not "African-Maricans" ... some are outside that culture.

Two of us from the rainforest that is Pennsylvania were walking around the Desert Museum in Tucson. Neither of us were carrying water. After about a half hour the two of us looked at each other at the same time. We had never experienced our throats go totally dry and feel like they were closing up before. It was a short walk to a concession but the rest of my time in Arizona I always had water nearby.

This tragedy reminds me of that German family who tried to drive through Death Valley in the summer.

I drove through Death Valley in June with no A/C. I was drinking water continuously and never felt a drop of sweat!
