What does Trump stand to gain by playing straw man, that he doesn't already have?

There's a lot of talk recently - ignorant accusations, actually - that somehow, Trump is playing Straw Man for Hitlery. To those GOPe jackboot lickers, I must ask: What DOES Trump stand to gain that he doesn't already have by playing the straw man?

This is a very simple, yet important question. Of course, the answer is: NOTHING, which entirely invalidates these accusations. We all know Trump isn't just going to jump in and play straw man out of the kindness of his heart. What's more, even if he WAS playing the part, the fact is that his popularity cuts a rather wide swath from left to right. So even if he DID run 3rd party, the truth is that there is just as much probability that he would siphon votes AWAY from Hitlery, as the probability that he would siphon those votes from the GOP candidate.

In the end, no matter how you slice or dice it, these accusations are political fodder at best, downright ignorant at worst.

For the record, I'm behind Cruz, and he will get my vote in the primaries. If Trump were to get the nod for 2016, he would need to have Cruz running with him for me to vote for him. If neither Cruz nor Trump makes it, I'll be voting 3rd party, whether Trump runs or not. When it comes right down to it, the GOP is dead, and its only chances of resurrection are Cruz and Trump. The rest are nothing more than GOPe CoC RINO shills.

Trump does almost everything for one reason: attention.

“To those GOPe jackboot lickers....”

If you are going to insult people right off the bat like that, we already know you have no interest in an actual conversation, you just want to spew vitriol.

He had that long before he announced. He wouldn't be doing it JUST for the attention. If that was the case, he would have done so long ago.

It’s obviously nonsense. Trump being for Hillary is delusions.

Question for tonight is, how will he respond to allegations from the Establishment part of the Republican party, knowing full well he won’t have the time to get his questions answered?

It will look like Trump in defensive mode and had no policy points. They are going CLoward Piven on him tonight. It will be interesting to see how he handles it.

No insults, just truth. So, answer the question? You see, I've mulled this over and over. The answer is: NOTHING, and that fact invalidates the accusations.

LOL...

This person has an agenda...most Trump supporters are filled with vitriol.

This poster forgets to mention the recent conversations with Bill, Trump’s love fest with Hillary in the past, and, until 2012, his HUGE donations to the DNC (however, he did donate 10K to Cory Booker, and more to Liberal causes in NY. I’ll find it.

Trump has a weakness...this is it. He will be asked about it...he must have an answer we believe. Until then, I won’t be convinced he isn’t a Democrat.

He probably isn’t for Hilary, but it doesn;t mean he isn’t helping her. Was Nader for Bush? Was Perot for Clinton?

Forgot the policy points although he will be as incoherent as he has been in interviews on those questions...

The real questions are going to be with his Democrat tendencies...THIS is where the fun begins with Trump.

Agreed. I've been saying for a while now that the debates will either solidify Trump as the forerunner, or knock him out of the race. I don't think there will be any in between.

....”Trump does almost everything for one reason: attention”....

That’s way too broad....those who have known Trump for years all attest to the fact of his involvement with the issues of the nation... and he’s toyed with running for many years....heck he was asked if he’d run in 1989....at which he declined.

1 Attention - ego gratification
2 Driving the discussion. Every R candidate is listening to every word Trump says and trying to copy it without Trump’s
bluster.

Was Nader for Bush? Was Perot for Clinton?

Comparing Trump with Nader or Perot doesn't answer any questions. Nader appealed to the leftist whackjobs. Perot appealed to the hard right/Libertarians. Trump's popularity cuts a wide path from left to right. I don't believe it would do either the dem or the rep any favors if Trump ran 3rd party.

No that’s not happening either. In a 3 way race against Hillary and Bush, he’ll very likely beat both of them.

And I doubt he’s even thinking that while he is owning the Repub field.

Straw man? Do you mean stalking horse?

stalk·ing horse
noun
noun: stalking horse; plural noun: stalking horses

a screen traditionally made in the shape of a horse behind which a hunter can stay concealed when stalking prey.
a false pretext concealing someone’s real intentions.
a political candidate who runs only in order to provoke the election and thus allow a stronger candidate to come forward.

If you’ve ever watched Celebrity Apprentice, you’d see that he demands respect, and he’s respectful of those who respect him. I believe that at this point Trump is very sincere about wanting to be president. He got pushed too far by those trying to force him out of the race, and when that happens he fights back. And wins.

I have no plans to watch the debate. (Being from PA, where the primary is over well before our election day, leaves me with the BFD attitude.) Trump’s advantage IMO is that he’s not part of the crowd that is part of the problem in DC. Perhaps an illusion, but I view him as the only biter in a room full of barkers.

I wondered if he was Peroting it too in the beginning.

Upon looking at the smouldering ruins of many bridges in his wake the only logical conclusion I can draw is that he is in fact sincere.

At the rate things are going here, if left unchecked DT could stand to lose everything.

Any American with property, a nest egg or asset of any sort is in serious jeopardy.

If he’s only running because he wants to preserve his empire then why not?

It will benefit all Americans to reverse the direction our country is going.

We will lose everything including our nation if it isn’t stopped.

We’ve tried maintaining the status quo.

It’s not working.

America is bleeding.

Someone needs to stop the bleeding and end the looting from both sides.
