It's been a few days since Microsoft Windows 10 launched and so far I'm loving it — and that's coming from someone who's been using a Macbook for the last 10 years.
There's just one thing missing. Well, two, technically.
I really miss my Apple and Google apps.
There are lots of perks to buying into the Apple ecosystem. With a Mac and an iPhone, you get all kinds of computing superpowers.
There's Handoff, an Apple feature which lets you shunt websites and draft emails from the phone to the desktop. There's Apple's Airdrop, which lets you send files (mostly photos) wirelessly between iPhone and the Mac. There's Continuum, which lets you receive phone calls on the computer or iPad.
But for my money, the best and most useful thing on the Mac is the Messages app, which lets you read and reply to text messages straight from the desktop. Originally, it would only work for Apple's own iMessage standard, but it was broadened earlier this year to include all text messages.
It's absurdly useful, especially while I'm trying to multitask at work.
On Windows, you lose all of that. There's likely no technical reason why Apple's couldn't make these features available on Windows, but Apple prefers to keep its best toys on its own side of the fence.
That makes a lot of business sense: Mac sales have defied the overall shrinkage of the PC market.
That's at least partially because Macs make an amazing complement to the always-popular iPhone — a smartphone that sells 47.5 million units during a bad quarter, and the cash cow that allows Apple to sit on a massive mountain of cash.
But Apple's no-Windows policy could also backfire if Windows 10 becomes a smash hit.

Hahahaha. Backfire by continuing to support their ecosystem over their competitors, and introduce fragmentation and other problems? I think not.
Unlike Microsoft Apple makes money by selling hardware. Every single piece of harware they sell then opens the door for them to continue to make money from you by selling you content. Apple has no risk by not supporting windows, at least in the forseible future.
Cults tend to be centric around their own belief system, no matter how narrow it is.
Microsoft forced me to Apple, with Yugo level engineering, an ability to purchase other software...only to ruin it, and a leader with keen business sense coupled to a laughable technical ability.
However, Apple appears to be trying to mimic Gate’s ineptitude with their latest “leader”.
Time will tell.
I remember the days when our documentation department said they could only use Apple to do page layouts. They were on a separate network that couldn’t talk to any other machine.
All the designers had to have both a Apple computer and a Microsoft computer to get their job done.
At the time, the interface was to print from the Apple Computer then scan it into a Microsoft Computer.
There was a way to network interface but the files were unreadable from the Microsoft Computers and the interface was like trying to use a 14k modem.
Apple’s branding is incredible, they have the best brand marketing in the world in my opinion.
You could slap the Apple logo on a Chevy Cruz and get 10x the sales.
Windows 10 = Catch up to Apple and Google
A step in the right direction, but they are still far behind.
Moreover, Amazon will soon be a big player too.

I know this Apple guy is trying to be nice but why are they so cluless.....between my Android phone and Window computer....ive been doing everything he list ...FOR YEARS. .....MS and google play nice with each other....Apple is the one that won't and never will

Don't have a problem with Apple users. Not a big fan of the professional FR Apple spammers.
Apple made their bed back in the day when IBM was working to get PC's talking to IBM mainframes and other enterprise networks, and Jobs declared that any such integration would be considered heresy in the Apple ecosystem.
When a windows/microsoft thread is posted (there are many of them. See dayglored to get on the ping list for same) the discussion is largely about the OS itself, it's strengths and shortcomings. Disparaging comments are directed at Microsoft or their amazingly craptastic products. You don't find the Apple or Linux users insulting the users of the craptastic products. By and large the comments are about the perceived shortcomings of various Microsoft offerings, or posts extolling the virtues of something else.
However, when an apple thread appears, within the first ten posts, often within the first five, there are always comments directed at the users of Apple products. Not posts that are relavant to anything actually in the article itself, but directed at the users themselves. It's remarkable, consistent, and easily discernable with only a casual perusal of any assortment of tech threads about Microsoft, Apple, or Linux offerings.
Hang out for a while on liberal sites, and you'll see exactly the same dynamic in the way the discussions run. Insults fly almost instantaneously, and liberally (pun intended) throughout the 'discussion'. Those of us who've watched this same tactic used here on FR on the tech threads put up with a lot of crap from supposed adults who are such enthusastic supporters of anything Microsoft that they can't differentiate between the user of a product and the product itself.
One could observe this behaviour here and elsewhere, and notice a smiliarity between these discussions and others, and note that often times the poster making the insults is really doing nothing more than projecting. I've thought for many, many years that this behavior indicates a certain insecurity on the part of the poster. I suppose it makes a bit of sense, because if I had to expend as much effort and resources to keep my computer malware free as windows users do, I'd probably be a bit insecure in my choices as well.
Another common thread of many of these posters seems to be utter ignrance about Apple products in general (beyond the iPhone/iPod), and OSX specifically. This utter lack of knowledge doesn't slow them down any though. On the other hand, the vast majority of OSX users do have experience and familiarity with Windows, as painful as that sometimes is, because we're forced to use it elsewhere. The reverse, is seldom the case.
BTW, I'm not particularly an Apple fan myself. I prefer Linux because it better suits the way I work, and can't say I have a whole lot of experience with Macs. I just find the insulting behavior of some Microsoft supporters is beyond the pale.

My real problem with Apple is that they DELIBERTLY chose to make obscene profits (and enrich the Chi-coms) by having products made in the China. China allows teenagers(Under 18) to work in a factory environment. I have a big problem with cultists who defend that situation.

Sometimes, not even a single post can go by without someone insulting apple users. Is it really necessary to denigrade someone else in order to support your own preferences?
I'm glad that windows works for you. For myself, my time is far too valuable to spend my life guarding against malware. I have work to do, and prefer to use something that provides me with the toolchain built in for me to do my work.
I’m an Apple user, have been for years. My first Mac was my oldest son’s hand-me-down. I’m not a technical person, and use them because they work well, last a long time, and are easy to use. I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. I don’t own any other Apple products, and don’t plan to. I don’t use any of the programs mentioned in the article. About all I use my computers for is to surf the net, send emails, and download torrents. I don’t even use iTunes. I’m retired, and don’t need any of the fancy gadgets that sync with my computer. Those are things I’ll never use. Basically, I’m a boring person, and happy being that way.

I’m a Apple lover but I tried windows 10 and like it and if Apple doesn’t make their software compatible windows I am going to trade my iPhone in for an android.
It’s nonsense. Let’s not even go into the fact that android users migrate to iPhones by far greater numbers than the reverse... Just look at Samsung... Once iPhone got a bigger screen they were done in the high end.
