TWO-HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS!! So where do you draw the financial line between what is cost effective and what is not?

In my brother's case of Gillian Barre, the cost (over $100,000) was far less to him and the insurance company than risks of spending more than a year paralyzed and on a ventilator.

So where do you draw the financial line between what is cost effective and what is not? Free market - And no, the health/medical market is not free, nor has it been for many years. That it is so insanely expensive should be indicative that it is not governed by fair market value.
