Who dat?
All the time.
I guess I’m old school. The ten essentials, lots of water, and a decent (not $200) pair of boots do me just fine. But then I used to backpack with exterior frames, carrying oiled canvas tents that weighed about 200 lbs and leaked if you touched them and cotton sleeping bags. Down bags were brand new and WAY too expensive. So today’s Walmart gear seems like a gift from God. $100 tents that keep you dry, every time. Wow!
OK. So the tents didn’t weigh 200 lbs. They just felt that way after ten miles :)
I’m not a backpacker but for years I worked outdoors and was on my feet carrying loads most of the day. I learned the value of good boots. I was developing lower back pain until I started wearing a good pair of hiking boots. The pain went away like magic. My favorites were Alicos and Merrell Wilderness. They are heavy but give tremendous support. And being Norwegian welt I was able to resole them.
I saw an enormous mountain lion while riding my bike on the Sheep Camp Trail just north of the water temple in SM county.
It was giant.
Interestingly, homos use that area for anoymous gay sex. Can’t wait for that interaction.
I climbed Mt Whitney in $25 Hi Tek boots back in my young days.
I haven’t spotted a lion yet on the Peninsula and nearby parks. I’ve taken to singing, yelling, clapping and making other noises in problematic areas (which is most of the Peninsula). Maybe it’s working. ;>)
OK. I’m ignorant. What is Norwegian welt?
