Angry protesters stand outside home of trooper who arrested Sandra Bland
my fox houston ^ | 7-26-2015 | Ashley Johnson

Posted on 07/26/2015 9:41:43 PM PDT by Citizen Zed

Outraged protesters stood outside of the apartment complex where the state trooper who arrested Sandra Bland lives.  The DPS officer is currently on desk duty but protesters say that’s not enough.  They say the investigation is moving too slow and they want the trooper not only fired but indicted.

On a day when it felt like it couldn’t get any hotter, Quanell X and protesters lit their own fire.

“I'm a speak frank to you, in that cops mind he was saying to himself who does the N-word think she is talking to me like this. And that's when he said get out of the car I'll light you up.  Well since you like lighting up black women, there's a whole bunch of black men coming today. Let's see if he's going to light some of us up,” Quanell X said.

Deputies guarded off the front entrance where Trooper Brian Encinia lives in Katy and neighbors watched, as many kept saying if it weren’t for that trooper Sandra Bland would still be alive.

I asked Imani Windom: what's your message to the trooper specifically as being a women who could put herself in Sandra Bland’s position and mindset?  “You should think before you react just because she might have been rude, that's not against the law ...what she came off as in her strong voice ...she shouldn't have been treated that way,” Windom responded.

Even Gloria Rubac a white woman stood with a sign that read “Black Lives Matter.”

“I also believe in the slogan ‘black lives matter’ because I think we have to say that white lives have always mattered but in this day and age with the epidemic of police shootings I think it's a priority for all of us to say black lives matter,” Rubac said.

Protesters ended with prayer and a hope that their prayers would be answered.  We also asked Quanell X if Sandra Bland’s family was on board with Sunday’s protest and he responded that it was an action he called for.

A cigarette is a dangerous weapon..

Good Lord, have we become so thoroughly pussified that a small burn is considered life-threatening?

Go hide under your bed and let the adults talk here. It's quite evident that you need momma government and her mindless authoritarian drones to protect you from the realities of life, since all you seem to be able to say is: Cops always RIGHT, civilians must obey!

Here's another clue, sunshine: the cops are NOT supposed to be some paramilitary force. They are nothing more, nothing less than FELLOW CITIZENS entrusted with aiding the rest of the populace with enforcing the law. In fact, because they choose to wear the uniform, they are morally obligated to act in an exemplary manner towards their fellow citizens, to provide an example to our youth and to act in a manner beyond reproach.

While nobody can possibly be like that at all times is one thing. For the egregious and rampant abuse of citizens to be such a constant in the last two decades speaks volumes about where our society is going. That your ilk actually SUPPORT this kind of horrific behaviour is a stain on all civilization.

When one gets out of line, they should be fired, prosecuted to the fullest, and spend HARD time in prison. Even the suspicion of wrongdoing should cause relegation to either a foot beat or desk job until the suspicions are cleared. If an officer is dismissed for cause, there should be a nationwide ban on their ever wearing any uniform with more authority than a security guard at a food court, where they can pick up scofflaw's trays.

The public did not start the "US V THEM" game that the police have been playing, but since WE are the ones who pay the bills, guess who's got the short stick?

TROOPER: “Well, you can step out now

The now part means after she refused to put out the cigarette.

Yes, she screwed up when she became belligerent. After she showed belligerence, she was ordered to step out of the car. I don't blame the officer, since her belligerence may be an indicator she is about to do something else, and he needed to see every move she made, in full unobstructed view. Get her out of the car and observe if she has any weapons, and/or conduct a search.

Speaking of belligerence, I read some of your posts on this thread.

I'm going to have to ask you, sir or ma'am, so step away from the keyboard.

Slowly.

The Supreme Court has ruled in Pennsylvania vs Mimms that during a lawful traffic stop the police have the authority to order all occupants out of a vehicle.

I’m not getting out of my personal property unless I’m told I am under arrest...if I am told I am under arrest...then I will comply...if I am told I am not under arrest then I will sit in my car seat.

As a public service, I offer the following advice, to help a fellow FReeper avoid getting his a$$ kicked:

“Firstly, the request to extinguish a cigarette is not ILLEGITIMATE. A lit cigarette can cause injury and can be used as a dangerous weapon.”

FINALLY! Someone nailed the cigarette issue on this thread.

So you admit the sole reason for the cop to order her out was a refusal to a REQUEST to put out her cigarette.

It seems we are in agreement.

BTW..I tried looking up the charge of “belligerence” and the codified punishment in the Texas criminal code for committing “belligerence”...didnt find it...not even aggravated belligerence.

Your choice, but you are giving them the right to physically remove you and use additional force and arrest you as you continue to resist.

I am explaining what rights we do and don’t have. If you want to pretend you have a right that you actually don’t have and behave accordingly, fine. But you should not mislead others into believing they have the right to refuse to exit a vehicle. We need to know exactly what rights we have and do not have to make informed, intelligent decisions on how to behave in such situations.

Thinking she had that right was Bland’s key mistake. She told the officer he hsd no authority to order her out, but she was dead wrong.

All her attitude was perfectly legal, and refusing to put out the cigarette may have been legal, but once she refused to get out of the car, she was screwed legally.

Was it a semi auto cigarette..or fully auto?

Did she have a high capacity “pack” in her car...or a full on “arsonal” like a carton?

Or to put it this way.....if you are threatend by a cigarette...please do me a favor and move to france.

If a cigarette is a “dangerous weapon” can I be charged with the mere possession of such a “dangerous weapon’ without a permit?

And here I was walking around with a .357 mag for no reason...I had a pack of smokes in my pocket to fight off armed robbers....silly me.

And yes that is flat out mockery.

“Yes, she screwed up when she became belligerent. After she showed belligerence, she was ordered to step out of the car.”

And what did she do again?

She asked why she had to put out her cigarette, in her own car...and he ordered her out of the car after doing so....that is not a strawman..that is what happend.

Yeah they came up with new charge for that...”passive resistance”....that means even asking why you are being arrested can be “resisting arrest”.

Now if you are happy to skip down that road...be my guest...may your chains rest lightly.

Belligerence is not a crime, but it gives the officer a reason he can articulate to explain why he ordered the person out. “Her belligerence heightened my concern about my safety and I felt I needed to have her exit the vehicle to ensure my safety.”

Again, he doesn’t even need a reason. “Lawful traffic stop” is all the justification he needs to order any or all occupants out of the car. She could have been the sweetest, friendliest, most politr person he ever pulled over and he could have ordered her out.

Yup. People don’t seem to get how foolish and dangerous resisting arrest is.

Mass murderers who give up peacefully rarely get even a scratch, but petty offenders who resist often get injured and sometimes worse.

"You are right. He said he was going to arrest her when he dragged her out of the car. The kick happened later. But it is my understanding that the only thing she ended up being arrested for was assault on an officer."

Yeah, seems lots of people are noticing that. I see lots of The old "arrested for resisting arrest" play talk among people posting about this.

Citizen: Officer why are you arresting me?

Officer: Because you are resisting arrest?

Citizen: When did you start arresting me?

Officer: When you started resisting arrest?

Citizen: How can I resist arrest until you start arresting me?

Officer: Oh a wise ass eh? (tasers citizen) now you are also being arrested for assault.

Citizen I didn't hit you!

Officer: Yes you did when you fell to the ground you fell on my foot.
