How about “the Poor Soul” and “Reginald van Gleason III”? Those were characters on his show when he had the variety format. His Poor Soul would always make me laugh and cry during the same skit.

Eventually, he switched it to all Honeymooners all the time. Used to introduce the cast at the end and give them each a curtain call. Art Carney used to get a huge ovation without fail.

Jackie Gleason was an amazing talent.

I found this clip about 15 years ago. This is the one I was looking for when starting this thread. Thanks for helping me find it “the poor soul”. I love how he take his coat off and hold it in his hand while standing on the scale, hoping that will make him weigh less...

Yeah, I used to like all his characters. Carney gets a lot of credit (even by Gleason) for the success of The Honeymooners, and he was my favorite at the time.

But watching reruns of the show decades later revealed to me Gleason as a comic genius himself.
