I live a block and a half away from a restaurant that BBQs their menu meats every single day.
It hasn't ever made me sick. But it's a bit of a distance away, and even when I drive by, the fumes are not the same.
But back to this article topic, the local “ordinance” in this case (from other sources I've read) require multiple complaints before any LEOs are even sent out to even investigate.
They do that at the ACE Hardware in town. My father likes to go there just for the popcorn. If it’s empty he asks them to make a new batch!
A gas grill can give some nice results....we just dont call it bbq which requires low heat, smoke, and a long time

That is because you have class.
There is a thing called olfactory exhaustion. Smell is caused by a chemical reaction between odorants and chemicals in the nose. Your body doesn’t produce olfactory chemicals as fast as the BBQ produces odors, and soon you stop smelling the BBQ. I bet when you drive home after being away all day, you do smell it.
