Question: Most runs in a single MLB game THIS season (2015)?
7/22/15 | sff

Posted on 07/22/2015 8:25:47 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

I leave this to the wisdom of FREEPers...I have scoured the internet (not too well, apparently) even looking over MLB's site, and cannot find the game played this season that has more runs scored than any other.

Anyone know what it is? I am wondering...I know the season isn't over...I'm just asking "So far, what game has had more runs scored than any other?"

How about that 2011 World Series, when the Cardinals TWICE were down to one strike to losing the series against the Rangers....and came back to win.

That was unbelievable.

John kruk homered that game. I still remember kruk facing randy Johnson in the all star game. Classic moment

June 29, 1952: All-time great ninth inning comeback
http://www.hardballtimes.com/tht-live/60th-anniversary-all-time-great-ninth-inning-comeback/

Down 8-2 in the top of the ninth, two outs, no one on, nine straight Cubs then reached base, and they scored seven runs, to beat Cincinnati 9-8

Another stat...even tougher to find, if it can be found at all:

Most number of pitches to a batter in single Plate Appearance.

Pitches to batter is not an official stat, AFAIK.

On Runs Scored: Seems in most years there’s a game or a few where a team scores 20 or more runs, but 25 runs in a single game will get in the record books. Most teams already have a 14-run game this season. The Twins gave up 14 runs on Sunday.

But now that brings up a curiosity question.

In that event would the pitch be called, and would the ball be in play? And if so, how would it be scored?

Who’s got the rulebook?? ;-)

I’m guessing that would fall into the dead ball category; basically a do over. Although “bawk” comes to mind ;)

I remember that game well and didn’t enjoy it at all.

I was staying with my former in-laws in Atascadero as I was in the process of applying for a job at the Diablo Canyon nuke power plant in San Luis Obispo. I was outside on a warm summer night listening on the radio because I was the only one there interested in the Dodgers.

Not a pleasant outcome for the Dodgers in that game, but remembering it brings back a lot of happy memories for me.

There’s at least 1 game missing from that list. In the late 70’s, the Phillies were visiting the Cubs and the wind was blowing hard to the outfield. Final score was 26-23. I think it was ‘79, and I had just flown into Chicago on a business trip; went to my hotel, checked in, and caught a cab to Wrigley. Game went on forever with all the long-balls.

I agree that the umps would rule it "no pitch/dead ball" out of simple equity.

In this case, after hitting the bird in front of home plate the ball deflected and went to the backstop. Relatedly, if a pitch doesn't even reach the plate nor cross either of the foul lines, it's also ruled "no pitch," although if there are runners on-base it would be a balk. I've seen this happen several times: the ball will slip out of the pitcher's hand, or he'll stumble, or--memorably--his arm will snap, as Dave Dravecky's did.

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/official_rules.jsp

Rule 6.02(b) Comment (Rule 8.01(d ) Comment ): A ball which slips out of a pitcher’s hand and crosses the foul line shall be called a ball; otherwise it will be called no pitch. This would be a balk with men on base.
