Robert Griffin III 'done' as effective QB, NFL coach says

As a sensational NFL rookie in 2012, Robert Griffin III so dazzled opponents that former Giants defensive end Justin Tuck cursed the football gods for delivering a fixture in his nightmares.

Now that Griffin has followed that Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign with a pair of injury-ravaged disheartening seasons, one NFL coach believes the polarizing quarterback will never reach his once-limitless potential.

"There's no coming back," the undisclosed offensive coach told ESPN.com's Mike Sando. "He is done. The reason is, the injury slowed his legs, and his ego will not allow him to hit rock bottom and actually grind his way back up the right way."

Headed towards the worst draft bust of all time considering all the first round picks the Deadskins traded away to move up to get Griffin.

I was sad that he even won Rookie of the Year. He was at best the third best rookie that year (if that) behind Luck and Wilson. And where are they now? Luck and Wilson are two of the top five NFL Qbs and Griffen is, well, whatever. Probably not even a real starter.

I think it's a tad early to write this guy off completely...

Gotta love how they take an anonymous rumor spread by an unnamed source and circulate it as gospel. Stay Classy, ESPN.

I agree. The Rookie if the Year was the result of hype. Just like Obama winning the Nobel.

LOL..I noticed that as well...

Sounds like "someone" is sending RGIII a message...

Bovine scat. Who's this "coach spewing this nonsense?"

Look what happened to Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb, and to a lesser extent, Michael Vick after they settled into becoming pocket-pass QBs. They extended their careers.

The problem is that Griffin wasn't probably developed once he began. He was literally thrown to the wolves.

Ryan Leaf (from the Chargers to prison) still holds the top spot, IMO, but RG III may be a bad one, too. All the hype with his arrival - Brit Hume called him the most popular Redskins player of all time (B.S.) - was misplaced. Biggest problem is his coachability; he’s a know-it-all.

The Cowboys did well by letting him pass on the the Redskins. I hate that Gruden has been stuck with him but if any coach can redeem RGIII, Gruden can.

Don't forget Oakland's Jamarcus Russell as another major, big-time bust.

I loved when the Redskins played the Rams last year. For the coin toss, coach Fisher sent out all of the players drafted from picks garnered from the Robert Griffin trade. That was funny coach Fisher.

Exactly - last year he was called into a coach's meeting and spent two hours listening to what he needed to change and improve.

He wasn't out of the meeting 5 minutes before he started twittering about a new commercial he was going to do - kinda tells you where his head was.

Do you guys know anything about football at all?

2012 QB Ratings:

Andrew Luck: 76.5
Russell Wilson: 100.0
Robert Griffin: 102.4

All three teams made the playoffs; the Seahawks and Colts were wild cards; the Redskins won their division.

Robert Griffin III wasn’t hype in 2012. He was the real deal.

It only took 3 seasons to ruin him (the last game of the 1st season did the trick).

I didn't know that. Very funny... and insulting, too!
