Budweiser's first ever Bud & Burgers Championship delivered beer, burgers, and a champion as promised by the title but some contestants are crying foul. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 10 amateurs cooks from around the country faced off this past Saturday in St. Louis during the beer company's competition for a chance to win $100,000 and have their burger named the winner. Famed chef David Chang (Momofuku) was in town to judge the competition (though that shouldn't be a surprise since last year he publicly proclaimed his love of Bud Light in the pages of GQ). However, contestants don't believe the judging was fair.
Fox 2 Now writes that many of the competitors are claiming that the competition "was rigged" because not everyone had a chance to sample the food. Apparently a number of attendees who shelled out $20 for a ticket didn't get many of the burgers at the event because the competition ran out earlier than expected. One attendee tweeted that she only got "a quarter of a burger out of a possible 10" before the food was all gone. Half of the contestants are also claiming that the competition was skewed in favor of local competitors, one of whom won the competition.
Budweiser which is losing fans to craft beer brands posted a statement on its website apologizing to everyone that was not able to sample each burger. The company notes, "Due to overwhelming interest, we ran out of burgers 15 minutes earlier than expected." Budweiser will offer refunds to anyone who felt like they "did not get the full experience." However, the beer maker has yet to acknowledge claims of competition rigging.
“Famed chef David Chang (Momofuku)”
Perhaps that was the problem. Can anyone trust a person by the name of Momofuku?
In socialist countries people line up for food that isn’t there...
Unless the attendees were voting for the best burger I dont see that not everyone who bought a ticket didnt get to sample each burger is relevant to fair competition.
deck chairs...Titanic...
As long as a chef is fat, I’ll begin with the assumption that he knows his business.
NEVER trust a skinny chef.
Hey, people say his stuff is really good. I’ve never had any, but he’s done well.
As they damn well should. That it's lasted this long still amazes me.
That's because the craft beer quality difference far exceeds the minimal price difference.
Budweiser has always been over-priced and not very good as far as beer goes.
The “beechwood aged”, is not beechwood barrels, but beechwood chips shoveled into the massive stainless steel aging vats. It will get you drunk if that’s the mission, but Budweiser has never been the “King of Beers” in my book. When the Miller Brewery (Fulton, NY) opened just after Schiltz (Baldwinsville, NY) opened a few miles apart, you could buy a six-pack of either for $2.79. The Schlitz brewery is now AB-Inbev and has been since the mid 1980’s.
Eventually I grew to like Labatt’s Blue, and then came to prefer Saranac Pale Ale over all others. But then again, I don’t drink much beer these days, and have gone over to Wild Turkey and Johnny Walker Black.
At the very least he isn’t a beer snob.
Freegards
! The contest was fixed? Budweiser rigged the cook off?
I am shocked! Shocked I tell you!
No I am not really.
It's nasty swill. Nein!
I'll drink Bud but not their Light. Sorry, Spuds...RIP.
You're darn tootin! Thanks for the laugh!
Burger Chef wasn't skinny and his outfit made great burgers back in the day! ;)
Momofuku is not his name, it’s the name of his restaurant. Haven’t been there, but there is another chef there that makes a pie known as “crack pie” (because it is so addictive) and they ship it all over the US at a high price. You can Google it and get the recipe.
Last Christmas, I brought a version that used Trader Joe’s cookie butter to our family gathering, and it was a HUGE hit.
I don’t really care about the burger contest.
I’m retired, and a life-long beer drinker, so have recently been noticing the % of ABV in various beers. Seems the higher the ABV a beer has that I drink fewer beers/day. I just like to have a mellow buzz through the late afternoon and evening. Of course, the less ABV means I drink more per day. The higher ABV costs more, but I suppose it all balances out in the end. ....Here’s a link to comparisons:

Egad. Talk about a sell out.
No chef worth his apron and hat would ever say such a thing unless he'd been paid by Buttwidener.
Budweiser is not beer. It is a malt beverage at best. Beer is not brewed using rice.
