CVS Health is leaving the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, saying the trade groups position on tobacco products is incompatible with CVS focus on health.
The Chamber of Commerce said its position on tobacco products is being misinterpreted and its unfortunate that a company is leaving the organization over the issue.
A New York Times article published June 30 said the Chamber of Commerce is fighting anti-smoking laws around the world at the behest of the tobacco industry, which is facing increased regulation aimed at reducing smoking.

Businesses should STAY OUT OF POLITICS, and that includes Amazon, Ebay, etc.!
The ADHD and all the other drugs are stealing the manhood (and any memory of their childhood) from our boys.
CVS is just being PC about cigs.
But CVS's decision to stop selling cigarettes was not driven by politics. CVS's main growth area is in their "Minute Clinics," where they partner with health providers to provide basic medical services--vaccinations, diagnoses/referrals, physicals, etc. And their partner health providers don't want to set up shop down the aisle from a cigarette display.
It's not politics. It's business.
Oh, so is this why they burned down the CVS in Baltimore?
and your receipt was 30” long?
They stopped selling cigarettes because they were losing money. They were a pain to keep under lock and key, selling to underage kids was a liability, and you had to have a 21 year old on duty to sell them.
Go into a CVS and ask the staff how they feel about dumping cigarettes. They will tell you it was a great decision.
Yeah sure. Especially when it comes to Obamacare-ized “partner health providers.
I quit shopping there when they quit selling smokes. Petty I know, but they were so sanctimonious about their epiphany I just decided to take my business elsewhere.
+1 I threw out my CVS card.
Right. The 7-11 clerks are head and shoulders above the dumbass CVS clerks.
CVS has prices higher than 7-11 too.
That is so true. They have an anti-American leadership and when they hurt Americans, they hurt consumers, especially the middle class, who shop at small businesses.
There should be a corporate chamber and a small business chamber of commerce. They have totally different interests.
Was it cursive change?
That’s not unusual in any business these days. Many of us - old timers included - have gotten used to having the machine do our thinking. However- calling the manager for help was a little over the top. For me - I know if I’d given it a second, it would have made sense. Maybe she does need a short course in math.
Their prices are outrageous but they are conveniently located on every other corner. Rip off.
Silicone Valley and other big dollar companies now control the chamber. It’s all about the money.
Yeah, but they are using the front of the Chamber of commerce to put small businesses out of business as their interests and philosophies are in direct conflict.
Large corporations are interested in global businesss and employment, while small business’ interest lies in national business, workers - a thriving American middle class. Small business owners have been over bid and don’t have a voice or even a clear understanding of their conflicting interests in the Chamber anymore.
Agree. The Chamber no longer represents small businesses. They sold out of major corporations.
