From watching the commercials, it seems the watch is more of an annoyance than convenience.

The pent-up demand was satisfied the first week or so, with customers placing all their orders within the first hours/days/weeks. Once everyone who wanted one ordered one, few are left to place orders. There’s a limited market (by definition, starting with the world population being ~7B) for a single product (2 sizes + a few minor albeit pricy differences in construction). Interesting that a market in the millions can choose to order and satisfy their demand practically overnight.

There's no way I'd get a computer wrist watch. Useless.

Yep, if you can't see it becuase the screen is too small then it's worthless to me.

Whereas a three year old Rolex or a Breitling will be every bit as functional as a new one, and hold a high percentage of its value.

Indeed. I've been lookig closely at quality watches recently. I really don't have a use-case for "smart" watches, though I'm sure some people do.

An organization that makes guesses at sales based on emailed receipts, but cannot have had anything to do with receipts from Apple which was the sole source of the Apple Watch during the initial sales period, is claiming that ten days after Apple finally starts Apple Watch sales in the retail stores, sales are slowing down. . . and that sales are down from 200,000 a day. . . but based on WHAT? Their guesses? The chart they provided is bogus on its face, because no Apple Watch receipts could have been sent in early April because no Apple Watches were available for shipping until May! That was the pre-order period, and Apple only sent acknowledgments of customer pre-orders, not purchase receipts until the units shipped. — PING!

Apple Watch Sales slowing by 90% or FUD? Ping!

Two thousand people bought a gold toy? Wow.

I would not put any stock in this guess by an organization that does not have access to Apple's email receipts. Their figures are all over the place. They are just guesses. Even if it's close that's $20,000,000. . . Most of the Apple Watch Edition numbers are being sold in China.

I believe Apple was committing fraud by selling their $10k gold watches as 22 carat. Its not 22 carat in the traditional sense but Apple’s own 22 carat alloy, which could mean that there’s not much gold in it at all

First of all Apple is not selling any 22K gold watches, they are made with an Apple Patented 18K gold that is twice as hard as normal 18K gold and they are 75% gold and meet the definition of 18 Karat gold regardless of what the 25% they are alloyed with. So long as the content is 75% gold, it matters NOT what the other 25% is made of, so long as the gold content is correct. There is no fraud being committed.

Just how much gram of gold is in those watches? $100? Selling them at $10k is a rip off

About $900 to $1100 depending size of the watch. My original retail estimate for the gold Apple Watch was $5000 based on that gold estimate and normal jewelry markups.

Look up Tungstent Gold. Here is what it looks like when you open it up. So instead of being pure gold all the way through the gold bar. You have this.

Except its not a high end watch and its main function is not as a WATCH. You’d be better advised to compare it to a computer that is obsolete.

I think the suckers that paid for the simulated 22k gold have an “emperor’s new clothes” mental block.

There actually is less gold in it. Apple uses a new alloy that achieves 22 carat but with molecular structure containing more empty space, resulting in a lighter yet stronger alloy. This is not a secret; there’s some good articles out there about it.

No, ctdonath2, it's 18Karat, with a full 75% gold. . . lighter and stronger, but still 75% gold so it retains the 18K rating. Not 22K. See the post above with the photo of the back of the watch.
