The State Attorney's Office in Tallahassee, Fla., released surveillance video on Monday showing FSU quarterback De'Andre Johnson punching a female student at a bar a month ago.

Seems to me like the "tough guy hero in the wife beater shirt" is a fruitcake. Check out the guy sitting too his right with the same exact look (style) as him. They are possibly boyfriend and boyfriend.
The yelled at him, threaten him with her right fist, kicked him and then tried to hit him with a left hook before he finally responded to her drunken assault.
I would charge her.
Sorry folks, she started by holding up her right fist, then throws a left.
He’s a jerk, but so is she.
Perhaps they will BOTH think twice before throwing blows.
Again, this LARGE woman (note the size of her arm when she swings, it's larger than the QB’s)
Screams at him as he is trying to squeeze past to get to the bar.
Raises her right closed fist to hit him (which he promptly and smartly grabs to stop her)
She then kicks him at which point he tries to again calm the obviously drunk girl down by trying to grab her.
She then goes totally nuts and swings a wild left hook at him the almost lands on his jaw.
It was only after ALL of that he finally had enough of this drunken brat attacking him and popped her and quickly walked off.
Hard to believe, isn't it, that people here are still trying to defend this thug/punk QB.

Wrong. About 13-14 seconds into vid he does something to make her rapidly react. Probably touched her butt or something. And I don't have much respect for girls who hang out in bars. Still, it doesn't mean guys are entitled to touch or harass them. And who knows if she regularly hangs out in bars anyway. I sure don't.
The drunk woman took offense at him trying to squeeze past and in a alcohol induced rage started screaming at him, raised her right fist to hit him, kicked him (or kneed him, it's hard to tell) and then tried to clock him with a left hook.
Initially only trying to defensively stop this crazy drunk lady from attacking him, he finally had enough (after being kicked [maybe in the nuts] and then almost getting left hooked . Proceeded to retaliate with one quick punch and then retreated to escape the situation.
By the way I am not a FSU fan and don’t care one wit about the fact that this guy is a football player.
To me it’s obvious this woman instigated the entire incident and if anyone should have been charged it should have been her.
If I were this guy, I would be suing the girl, the DA, the school and possibly even the bar. This guys life might literally be over because some drunk girl attacked him and he over reacted in defense.
People need to stop focusing on the fact that this guy was a black football player and the woman was white. NONE of that matters.
Watch that video again and pretend HE was the one at the bar and the Girl was the one trying to push past and you will see the truth about who is at fault here.

Anyway, your description of what happened sounds like something a slime ball lawyer might say. The guy was on her butt as she was stepping up to the bar. She may have been trying to get away from the a-hole. I know it's very trendy today, but not all girls are into the OJ-Nicole thing.
And when you say, "been in this situation 100's of times", do you mean women have rejected your advances, and/or you've been slapped or punched for touching women inappropriately?

I am saying “woman” because I didn’t want to use “girl” [she was 21] or “lady” [she was obviously no lady] in reference to her.
I love ladies (and will treat them as such and defend them when necessary), I am however not to fond of drunk women, and will defend myself if one my size started attacking me.
The situation I have been in is being at a crowed bar trying to squeeze past people to order a drink (there is no line at bars). If you haven’t been to crowed bars you might not understand what it is like. You have to be a little aggressive and squeeze into what in any other situation would be considered another’s personal space.

I’m left thinking the same thing ... the guys on the various threads supporting the now ex-FSU just don’t seem to like girls, so they call her fat bimbo, bar ho, and the like. I guess they like women who appear like prepubescent boys.

At 0:06, woman is standing behind that guy, she has an empty cup in her hand and that hand is on the center of his back.
Guy turns his head to look at who is riding on him.
She is reacting to him already at 0:07.
She turns her head over her right shoulder and looks at him.
He appears to be staring at the ‘large empty spot’ at the bar - the Red Bull mat.
But his approach is blocked by another woman, on left.
We cannot see his hands at this time.
In fact, going back to 0:06, his approach is not on the woman he hit, but to the other woman on the left who is blocking the approach to the empty bar spot.
You are too far in. Go back to 0:06 to 0:08 for the start.
At 0:08, she has her head cranked over her right shoulder and has bent over so far backwards her head is horizontal.
Dude is still appears to be focused on getting past the woman on the left.
The latest is that he is saying that he was reacting to a racial slur when he punched her. Oooooooh...
At 0:11-12, woman on left has turned his back on him and is not making it easy to get by.
Woman who was hit takes a small sidestep left. This narrows the gap and makes it harder to squeeze up to the bar.
Woman who was hit is now fully up at the bar. She is rubbing shoulders with ‘man’ on right, but is no longer pushed up against his back with her right arm on his center back.
