He may be an object of derision to many followers of the 2016 presidential race, but advocates for tougher border laws are cheering Donald Trump’s controversial statements on immigration.

From what I read, there’s more than a few on the left who say this talk is music to their ears as well.

Maybe they’re not as far left as they think...

Trump is liked by many on the right because, unlike many of our politicians, he is not apologizing for his conservative positions on issues such as immigration.

We have all known (and hated) those politicians who claim to be conservative the apologize for their conservative positions.

Liberals never apologize and it drives us nuts!

I believe Trump is pro-abortion and pro-gay, which is why he won’t get my vote.

The only thing he’s got going for him is a strong stand on illegal immigration.

Other than that, I think he’s a social liberal.

Still cruisin’ with Cruz.

Well there is the question of global trade.

Trump is unabashedly for America, in that issue as well.

Not sure anyone, anywhere, is tougher on Trade in fact.

Not one person.

What the Media (including Fox News) has done is to take a statement about “ILLEGAL IMIGRATION” and change it to “IMIGRATION”.

I find the Media's new lumping together of Illegals and those who immigrated legally extremely insulting, especially to those who have immigrated legally and are now citizens.

“Why Donald Trump Resonates on the Right”

He doesn’t really. He gets lots of press but that tells us more about the left than the right. He’s polling well right now but the last presidential primary season showed us clearly how fickle the polls are.

I disagree.

Trump is saying Americans need factory jobs.

Everyone else has been selling off American factory jobs for an entire generation. More actually.

We now run a trade deficit just with China, of 342 billion dollars last year.

It continues to get always, worse.

Trump is the only guy, saying one word about that.

Only Trump.

When Trump goes explains how he’ll bring back jobs and factories - which would likely necessitate reciprocal tariffs and protectionist actions that our trading partners and brick nations engage in. This will cause many many conservatives and Republicans here and everywhere to go into fits, convulsions, tirades and full on meltdown. Absolute end of the world scenario worth making a last stand.

It's true. Bernie Sanders is big time anti-immigrant but because he's a leftist he never gets called out for it.

“...especially to those who have immigrated legally and are now citizens.”

I can’t believe there hasn’t been more of an outcry by the legal immigrants who, btw, had to jump through many hoops and pay significant bucks to get here.

OTH, I wouldn’t be surprised is there has been outrage and protests, but the media just won’t report on it.

The article’s title says that he resonates with conservatives(the ‘right’). The polls show The Donald scoring - and holding - respectable numbers. The communist press and GOPe come at him with everything but the kitchen sink.

Yet you say “he doesn’t really” resonate with the right. On what basis do you come to that conclusion?

Whatever Trump’s stands on other issues may be, I frankly do not care right now. If we do not solve the immigration problem, nothing else matters. We are OVER as a country if we do not deport illegals, get rid of the anchor baby law, and have an immigration moratorium. We are in danger of becoming a third world country. It may already be too late.

IMO Trump will get a lot of Democrat votes just like Reagan did. All Democrats don’t love the invasion from down South and a lot of Democrats are out of work.

“On what basis do you come to that conclusion?”

The complete lack of evidence, of course. I’m not seeing a lot of trump rallies or buttons, or even anybody saying, “I want to vote for that guy!” or even “I want to donate money to his campaign!”

Resonance is not a function of media attention. At the grass roots level, it’s just not there.
