Haha, I was 25 and pulling the same stunt (stupid Navy fighter pilot alert). Sometimes I wonder how I survived. Later, I took care of my parents for many years as their health declined & they eventually passed. It finally came to me — Providence and payback for my misspent youth ;)

Many people take a careless approach to using fireworks. We were over visiting family yesterday. They were allowing their kids to toss those little sparkler balls after they were lit. Then, finally, they allowed a little girl to hold a Roman candle in her hand after it was lit. - Never allowed our kid to do that; he had to stick the candle in the ground, then light it. - I wanted to say something; but this relative thinks he invented *SMART*, & I’m just a stupid know-nothing relative. The kids’ mother is German; and, as you may or may not know, “SMART” is her middle name.
*That* has been rammed down my throat for quite a while now.

I’m sure it was fun explaining that to Mom & Dad, as well as to the doctor.

My brother has some of these professional grade mortars that he’s fired off on occasion. They were quite impressive for their relatively diminutive size of approximately 2” - 2 1/2” in diameter. The rounds get up to their burst altitude rapidly and pack a wallop of sufficient force to bring the neighbors outside seeking an answer to what in the hell just exploded overhead. I thought about holding the tube, as it balanced precariously on the top of his block fence, deciding ultimately, that there was no good reason to do so. I was convinced that my decision was sound once I saw a round explode with tremendous, I repeat tremendous force.

This is the second story like this in about a week. In the other, it was a man in his 40s. You really could blame an internet video (the first deceased apparently saw something on YouTube), except nobody had to replicate it.

There was a hispanic family (About nine people) across the street last night setting off loads of fireworks.
The “dad” was sitting in between the sidewalk and street, tossing Black Cats at the little kids and laughing as they ran away.

I was waiting for some child’s toes to come flying into my yard.

Poor dummy should have taken a physics class in high school. “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

A chemistry class on the power of mortar-sized fireworks probably wouldn’t have hurt, either.

Was only allowed to play with sparklers when I was a kid. Even those are pretty dangerous because the tip gets hot. really, really hot.
