As I recall, the Amiga was Atari. The Commodore 64 was not.

IIRC, Amiga was independent at first, then it was bought by Commodore.

That one is not in very good condition.

They had a polarized plastic cover that went over the face of the CRT, so it all blended into the trim in a very snazzy way.

Stop it! - You're killing me!

4096 words of core memory and it burns up about 25 kW! ROFL!

Nope. Amiga was Commodore. Atari had a competitive product called the ST.

Thanks for the ping. I saw Debbie Harry somewhere in a bar in London in 79. That was my first foreign project out of college and I was heading home. Brings back memories if I could remember how I got back to the hotel.

I have many worries about digital. Maybe "hurd immunity" will keep some copies alive, however I believe analog is the only way to save information.

Hey, as a kid I was deprived ‘cause my parents didn’t put a computer in my bedroom and they sure as heck wouldn’t let me connect to the ‘net.

The Atari 800 was a wonderful little machine!

The most fun I have ever had programming was writing assembler for the 6502 CPU. It was so easy to write code for that little 8 bit processor. It was the heart of most of the great personal computers of that era.

The best 6502 code I have ever seen was the assembler code Steve Wosniak wrote that enabled the Apple II to control it’s 5.25” disk drive with hardly any hardware.. a real gem :-)

A very interesting topic for discussion.

We will always be playing ‘catch-up’. Battling against time, nature, and obsolescence(among other things).

I watched Hughes’ “The Outlaw” last nite,,
What a silly piece of tripe.

Would”Helps Angels” be worth a watch and is it available?

We need to completely revamp copyright. Much material has already been lost due to the insane length of today’s copyright law. A return to the origional 14 year term with a maximum of obe 14 year renewalnwould be optimal, but with media companies purchasing the best congress koney can buy, I wouldnt hold my breath.

Analog was always fast.

Yep, and reliable. Had a long bout between a virtual LabView instrument and breadboarded hardware.

The initial program is still working in hardware.

Most importantly, my books are still on the shelf in paper.

The world better figure out how to maintain digital information as reliably as a Swiss music box.

"Hell's Angels" Is an excellent film.

Filming started as a silent but when sound came in Hugh's decided to re-shoot as a talkie.

Greta Nissen who was the star but had a strong foreign accent was dropped and Jean Harlow was put in as the replacement. Hugh's had her under contract to his Caddo film company.

Greta Nissen

Jean Harlow

You can get the film on DVD from TCM or order it from Amazon.

The air bearing noise I will never forget.

There was one of each but in different parts of the building.

The Amiga was Commodore, but (if memory serves, and mine is verging on obsolete technology) the project that created the Amiga began at Atari, was dumped after they domped Jack Tramiel, and he nabbed the thing and wound up at Commodore. Atari wound up rushing into their ST system, which like the Amiga and Mac, was 68K processor based.

I know it had 4096 words of core memory. The words were 12 bits long too, plus a parity bit.

I worked with a guy (Zeke) who started his career assembling core memory. He said he had to find something else to do as assembling core memory was "mind numbing" work.

He became the chief draftsman for our end of a joint venture with Sperry/Vickers.

We were good friends and I still miss him, he died young.

Regards,
GtG
