Man Is Killed by Alligator in Texas While Swimming, Despite Warnings From Local Officials Not to

Orange County Police were called to Burkart’s Marina near the Louisiana state line early Friday morning....

Orange County Justice of the Peace Rodney Price told CNN affiliate KFDM that Woodward ignored verbal warnings and a posted “No Swimming Alligators” sign and seemed to mock the deadly creatures before going in the water.

“He removed his shirt, removed his billfold … someone shouted a warning and he said ‘blank the alligators’ and jumped into the water and almost immediately yelled for help,” Price said.

The “No Swimming Alligators” sign was posted this week after a 10-foot alligator was spotted in the bayou waters.

Witness heard ‘An alligator’s got him’

“Please do not go swimming, there’s a bigger alligator out here. Just please stay out of the water,” witness and marina employee Michelle Wright said she told Woodward.

I agree, it must have been terrifying being with him. They’re lucky they weren’t found dead in the bayou while he told their families, “Huh? Sorry, they were never with me ...”.

Yep! My guess he was not a local or he built up some liquid courage to jump in there. They said one gal jumped in after him. Whew that’s tough!

What is the gator population of that part of the country? I was surprised to learn there were gators as far west as Waco and as north as Dallas.

I don't know what the alligator population is in Brazoria county but I do know they spread in flood waters from one pond or creek to the next. There was even one spotted in the ditch along the road to our place.
We are on Oyster Creek and we lived there from 1964 till1979 and I never saw an alligator there in that time but I know they were there. I did see a huge one on a lake over near the Brazos River. There are undoubtedly more now.

LOL...sounds like sound advice!

ESPECIALLY don’t swim in the ocean with wire whisks attached to your ears...the sharks can use them to make hollandaise sauce to pour over you!
