The brave, the strong and the patriots are most likely to die in wars. The selfish, the weak and the liars are more likely to hide at home.
The UK lost three times as many men as the USA by percentage. In France, the remaining real men (after WWI) fought an unsupported underground resistance and many died.
We are still seeing the consequences of all those good men killed in WWI and WWII. In fact, instead of being encouraged, men that show strength today are ostracized and drugged since they are teens.
