‘Terminator Genisys’ Review: Nonsense and Insensibility
wsj ^

Terminator Genisys” tries to squeeze blood from a corpse, and the ghastliness isn’t confined to its star. At least Arnold Schwarzenegger has clearly been assigned the task of comic relief as the guardian robot who is now called Pops by the heroine he was sent from the future to guard. The whole thing is moribund, notwithstanding vast spasms of action gibberish, and despite the intricacies of good and bad outcomes that have been plotted on alternate timelines. On an alternate line with a better outcome, this movie, which was directed by Alan Taylor, would never have been produced. Yet here it is, filling thousands of multiplex screens, so the best to be hoped for is merciful termination of the franchise. “I’m old, not obsolete,” Pops insists, but the premise has become both.

There is a show called “Humans” on the AMC channel, similar premise.

I have heard good things about that show.

I will need to check it out now :)

I’ll need to put that on my phone calendar. I’ve seen the previews and it looked interesting.

I have already seen the first episode of “HUM∀NS” as a preview “on demand” through Xfinity. I really enjoyed it. The premise is that some of the supposed dumb androids are being hunted because they have actually become sentient, therefore a threat to humanity.

I’m no fan of Cameron. But in T2 he very effectively closed the time loop leaving no way to continue the series. There would have been no skynet and thus no war. End of series.

Once it decided to start being its own movie it comes together pretty well. Conceptually it borrows pretty heavily from the TV show and from the JMS Final Battle comics, which is pretty cool. In the beginning, when they’re “re-doing” the first movie there’s a lot of fan service callback gags referring to the first two movie. And while I do love me some fan service it’s just too much. There’s a good 20 minute stretch where it feels like every other line is a tagger. Then finally they jump to the future and get to start doing their own movie, and it’s a pretty solid piece of Terminator. A new T evolution, some good action, decent consequences, and ending with the false hope we’ve all grown so fond of in a Terminator movie.

Well no skynet could be built from old Terminator parts. Doesn’t mean one couldn’t be built from scratch. Plenty of people had been given ideas, once you put an idea in people’s heads we eventually figure out how to do it.

I saw it in 3D yesterday and enjoyed it. The timeline thing was off and I can’t “grok” it. However, you have to remember this is only the first third of the story unfolding.
Also, don’t miss the scene after the end credits role.

All I need to know about this movie is what I read in Christianity Today movie review that people refer to Arnold/robot ad “Pops”. Nuff said.
