If the two of them were hiding together, well that's kind of dumb. It increases the chances of the both of them getting caught.

If they were smart, they would have immediately gone their separate ways, greatly reducing the chances of both of them getting caught.

Things to note about this case

1.They were definitely moving towards the border.

2. This is different from the PA manhunt where the suspect was in his own hometown, had stashes of food and supplies.

3. The surviving escapee is a convicted cop killer and very dangerous. He will kill somebody if they have something he needs, like a car.
