“The tradeoff is gas mileage, but I’m working on that.”

I would just grab a JC Whitney (are they still around?) catalog and start ordering parts. Every part says it will increase mileage 10 or 20%. If you order 10 of these, theoretically you will have to pump gas out of it periodically!

I still laugh at all of those descriptions and hype.

Yeah, I’m old school so I’ve seen it all too. Water injection, magnets, electric supercharger.

The big fuel mileage gain is swapping the old 2 speed power glide for a 700r4 4 speed automatic. Multiple spark discharge helps and you can always swap up to fuel injection with new computer systems.

Don’t forget all the HP gains. I spent some time around dirt track racing, actually a lot of time; decades. We used to go to the off season shows to see what all the new trick stuff was for the year. By their claims we could have just bolted on mucho HP with all the “must have” shiny new gadgets. We figured if we bought everything that would give us 10-30% out of the box gains we could easily be making 1000+ HP from our little naturally aspirated 350 SBC.
