Here is a link to Linux Mint KDE 17.1
Click Here It is FREE. It DOES NOT require authentication. The system requirements are listed.
I have used the USA
James Madison University download site: Download the .iso file and burn it to a DVD.
Then with a computer that you are willing to install the system on, install Linux Mint from the DVD. Boot from the DVD.
The DVD will walk you through the installation.
If you don't want to put it on a hard drive, you can install it on a 16Gb or larger USB stick, but it will be slower.
I run Linux Mint full time, but for one program that I have a very expensive license for, I use a dual boot Linux first or Windows XP second.
After the install, FireFox and VLC will be automatically installed. On my numerous systems the install found all of the hardware and no driver disks were required.
Once you have Linux Mint installed on a hard drive, you can move the hard drive to another computer and Voila! It will boot up and run. Try that with Windows!
Good Luck. I am not looking back to Windows. As far as I am concerned I have outgrown Windows.
