Tiger Woods' Free-Fall Going Faster by the Round
ESPN ^ | 6/18

Maybe there was a time you figured the artist formerly known as Tiger Woods had earned his own demise, that he had this coming to him all along. Maybe you thought he deserved to suffer on the golf course after the scandal, and after he spent his dynastic years wearing that invisible Do Not Disturb sign while keeping you, the sports fan, as far away as possible on the less fortunate side of the ropes.

Maybe you were a blind believer in karma, entrenched enough in the what-goes-around, comes-around crowd to enjoy watching Woods devolve into the worst kind of a muni-course hacker.

But even the most passionate haters can't find satisfaction in this anymore. Like him or not, Tiger Woods stands among the greatest athletes this country has ever produced. Who really wants to see him keep getting humiliated like he was Thursday at Chambers Bay, where the tattered remains of his indomitable aura were pancaked by the freight trains rumbling across the banks of Puget Sound?

Scandals aside, he was a great player. He’s losing his edge, but that doesn’t take away from his sporting legacy

His "sporting legacy" is questionable, to say the least. Yes, he won a lot of tournaments. But golf has traditionally been a gentleman's game and the last few years has seen the goon factor in professional golf explode exponentially. The brainless demeanor of drunken fans on the course during play ("You da man!! IN the hole!!!") is matched by the obnoxious behavior of some players, notably Tiger's temper tantrums (referred to above) and less than stellar off-course behavior.

Bobby Jones is rolling in his grave.

Actually, to many people, that would depend on whether or not he used PEDs.

Oh it doesn’t take away from his sporting legacy? Please tell me why it is different if you swing a baseball bat or ride a racing bike you’re guilty and are disgraced, but a golf club protects you from criticism and DE-Idolization?

The event that started his ceclinecwas PGA testing for steroids.

That year his knee went out.

The last place person gets $17k? Why?

All I can say is 17K to a pro athlete is like a nickle tip to a waitress.

Because they're not really "last place" -- they beat the half of the field that didn't make the mid-tournament cut.

More than any other sport, golf is a mental game. You gotta have everything else in your life peaceful to be able to concentrate.

When Tiger was living the party-life, with everyone applauding and adoring him, things were good in his mind. After “That Night”, he knew his marriage was doomed and that the public saw his image was a fake. That messes up a man’s mind real good.

Perhaps not surprising the best golfers have a stable domestic life?

You're right, if I have deciphered your code correctly.

PGA began drug testing in 2008, the year of wood's last major win.

I don’t understand how steroids could help a golfer. Plus, his caddie for the majority of those years says he didn’t take them, and he has every reason to say bad things about Woods.

Woods is a lying, cheating piece of scum who is not worthy to tie the shoelaces of the golf greats.

Nicklaus, Palmer, Jones, Hogan, Player, Snead, Nelson, etc. — these men are the giants of golf. Men of talent and character. Woods does not belong in their company. He is despicable and disgraceful.

You mean like this?       :)

The world No 1 also won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in May, just days after splitting from tennis star fiancee Caroline Wozniacki, even though the wedding invitations had already been sent out.

I’m not so much a Tiger-hater as I am a Tiger Fanboi hater.

I quickly got tired of the fawning MSM and the 30-something, chubby photocopier salesmen who used to follow Tiger around the course, sipping their beers in plastic cups and shouting “Get in the hole!” Every time Tiger putted.

[I think there was more to it. The revelation of his ugly personal life cracked the media shell of Tiger Woods. With the media bloodhounds sniffing around, he had to quit steroids. I mean, how else could he win at Torrey Pines with a broken leg, but a few years later quit the 11th hole at Farmers because of “deactivated glutes?” Drugs.]

I think you mean the “McEnroe factor”.

I don’t understand how steroids could help a golfer.

I've never used them, so you'll have to do your own research on that.

Plus, his caddie for the majority of those years says he didn’t take them, and he has every reason to say bad things about Woods.

I tend to trust my eyes and the over-all facts, rather than the words of a single person who has his own agenda. But I get what you're saying.

I quickly got tired of the fawning MSM...

I know! Earlier this year, some were still saying he'd best Jack's record.

Yike! That's like saying obammy loves America, or that Rachel Dolezal creep is hot. Totally clueless.
