Accepting Emma Stone as an Asian-American in Aloha requires a certain suspension of disbelief and no small amount of magical thinking. In the Hawaii-set romantic comedy-drama, she portrays Allison Ng: an aggressively peppy Air Force fighter pilot of Chinese-Hawaiian-Swedish decent who falls for an existentially angst-y military contractor played by Bradley Cooper.
But in order to process this idea of Stone as a bi-racial character, as someone whose genetic lineage can be traced back to the Middle Kingdom by way of Polynesia, you must first get past the obvious stumbling blocks: her alabaster skin and strawberry blond hair, her emerald eyes and frecklespast the stars outwardly unassailable #Caucasityif only because the movie hammers home her cultural other-ness in just about every other scene.

IIRC, lots of bodies complained about John Wayne as Genghis Khan.
It’s to balance out Lucy Liu playing Dr. Watson in Elementary.
Adoption... I know an ethnic Korean with a Norwegian surname.
With John Wayne as Genghis Khan, the complaint wasn’t ethnic. His estate should have bought all rights and destroyed it!
Or, "Everybody Huang Chung tonight..."
My daughter is 50% Filipina by blood. Looks about 0%.
I have a cousin by marriage, that is 1/2 American Hispanic, and 1/2 Filipino.
His father (Hispanic) was career Air Force, and married a Filipino woman, who has very Asian appearance.
Some of their children have very Asian appearances, some not at all.
Great people, conservative, patriotic, devoutly religious.
John Wayne as Genghis...that was an attempt by a studio to destroy his career when he decided to strike out on his own, announced but had a couple of movies left on his contract...they were really vindictive...

Charles Ng, an exceptionally horrible California-based serial killer, is described in on-line material as "Chinese-American."
That’s because to you, those things are disasters. To them, it’s either part of the plan or they could care less.
“With John Wayne as Genghis Khan, the complaint wasnt ethnic. His estate should have bought all rights and destroyed it!”
Talk about miscast. The only John Wayne movie I can’t bring myself to watch. What was he thinking accepting the role? It couldn’t have been financial.
Well, if whatsername can lever her Indian Heritage into academic and political success then why not Emma Stone? She looks more oriental than, say, Pearl Bailey.
It’s that flower in her hair.
She was a fine choice to play blonde American girl Gwen Stacey
A Nigerian can marry a Norwegian and have a dozen kids.
They can vary from looking very much like Dad to very much like mom, though most will be somewhere in between.
I have a similar story. A friend of the family is a couple with one of Japanese descent, and one of Norweigian descent. Two of their three children look Asian, and the other one has coal black hair consistent with Asians but other wise looks white.
Remember the old Charlie Chan movies? Charlie was never played by an Asian actor.
