The one time I got it (and about 50 people I work with) was at an outdoor work party where someone decided to “save some money” and left the Macaroni Salad outside in the 90+ heat for several hours. I managed to limp into work and not miss any days - others went to the hospital.
It’s easy to tell everyone to stay away from any food outdoors after that, but I’m not that picky. But if the food has Mayonnaise in it, I will do my best to know its history - and for that, I trust a food chain much more than a mom-and-pop and much more than some people doing it one time. I base it on what a particular party has to lose, and an operation like McDonald’s would have lost millions in that situation...so they’re less likely to screw up (and they also know not to do dumb things). Of course it all comes down to humans - and if a manager at a particular McDonald’s screws up, I’m out of luck - but at least that manager has some training understands he’ll likely be personally bankrupt - so it helps.
Unreal. People can be stupid as rocks.
I used to work with a woman who got sick after tasting the marinade she put raw chicken in----she said she didn't know it would hurt her.
I avoid anything “egg based” including mayonnaise at outdoor functions on a hot day. That’s why when I attended a friends wedding reception one summer in the 80s I was among the 10% who didn’t get severely ill.
