I forgot to add in my opening post that this was the biggest box office hit of 1930.

I saw her as an adult in an Abbott and Costello film called “Lost In Alaska”. I think I like her Becky Thatcher better than Ann Gillis’ in the more famous 1938 film version. Also, she, Coogan and the rest of the cast reteamed the following year for the sequel “Huckleberry Finn” but I’ve not yet found that one on the internet.

Is this a good version? Never seen any Jackie Coogan movies (though I liked Jackie Cooper in “Treasure Island” quite a bit). I’ve been reading “Tom Sawyer” to our sons, so they’d probably love this if the child actors aren’t awful. ;o) What’s the scoop? Thanks1

It’s about standard for an early talkie(1927-1932). It’s not as slick or technically well-made as films are today or even the more famous 1938 version. However, as I’m a big fan of ancient films like these plus its source novel, I enjoy it. Just take it on its own terms as a film of its era.
