Here in northern Colorado, there's a Vinny Castilla Field. Vinny played for the Rockies. There's never been a baseball game played there. They bulldozed the pitcher's mound and turned it into a soccer pitch.

Same thing at the local high school. Kids playing soccer on what used to be baseball diamonds.

Having said that, I don't have any problem with players thanking fans. Either through applause, or taking a bow, or signing autographs, or whatever. 22 years as a professional musician, I've done all that. The autograph thing was kinda wierd...
