According to the report, Josh was sent to a Christian counseling center in Little Rock that was recommended by the elders in his Church. The Duggars knew the owner slightly but he was hardly a friend of theirs. Josh worked in construction while he was there and he received counseling from the center. He was there for three months, and there are no reports of him ever offending again.
Another might be that a "Christian counseling center" with no qualified health professionals, run by a guy with a home remodeling business, who has magically discovered that home remodeling is great therapy, is a pack of nonsense.
I wonder how many of the remodeling customers with small children were told that their contractor had a child predator on the (non?)payroll.
As to his not reoffending, well, maybe he hasn't or maybe now that he and his family have gotten some practice he is much better at keeping things under wraps.
The "Christian" who counseled Josh was Bill Gothard, the leader of the Duggars' faith, who later stepped down after being accused of sexual molestation by over 30 young girls.
In the police report Michelle said that the place that Josh was sent to was not a counseling center. It was someone they knew who was remodeling a building. The police asked her if it was a licensed counselor. She said “no”. They asked her if the person were a mentor and she said “Sort of.”
The family said the victims had counseling but didn’t say where. I suspect if they received any at all if was most likely through their church.
We have no idea if Josh has changed his ways or not. The repeat for this type of offense is very high. The remedy is usually to just keep these people away from children. Yet the Duggars kept him at home with minor children, some of them his victims. I can’t imagine what that must have been like.
