Back when I was a kid, CA schools used corporal punishment.

I never liked the idea... but I’m beginning to change my mind on it. If those kids disrupting the class were subjected to corporal punishment instead of suspension, perhaps their behavior would improve a bit.

What kind of punishment is suspension, anyway? The kid doesn’t want to go to school, so you punish him by not allowing him to go??? It seems more like a reward to me.

corporal punishment instead of suspension

Pain punishment only works if delivered immediately after the transgression, else the animal brain doesn't make the connection. The neocortex human brain that sits atop the animal brain can associate events separated over time but has no pain receptors.
