Big Spring Landowners Paid to Accommodate Jade Helm, Says Mayor

IG SPRING - Military officials have negotiated contracts with local ranchers to conduct Jade Helm training on their property, according to Big Spring Mayor Larry McLellan.

However, he said residents will not be "forced out of their homes" to accommodate troops during the large-scale military exercise, scheduled to run July 15 through September 15.

McLellan had no details about the contracts supposedly offered to Big Spring homeowners. Military officials were not available to answer questions about how many ranchers were being displaced or inconvenienced due to Jade Helm, and how much they would receive in compensation.

Jade Helm operations planners previously confirmed training will only be conducted on private and public land with the permission of landowners or regional authorities.

One lifelong Big Spring resident told NewsWest 9 he would not accept any amount of money to surrender his home to troops.

"I support our troops, but when they're trying to take over our civilians, that ain't cool," he said. "[Those are] their homes. That's where they live."

McLellan told NewsWest 9 residents could anticipate "[hearing] more airplane traffic," but no other major changes.

"We might also see new faces around town and in the grocery stories... but I don't think we're going to have people kicked out of their homes or [military personnel] knocking on doors in the middle of the night," he said.

McLellan confirmed Jade Helm personnel would be purchasing groceries and other supplies locally. Operations planners and city officials calculated "wherever they're training could see as much as $150,000 increase in sales" during the two-month exercise.

Oh that pesky Bill of Rights again!

Who woulda thunk that the 3rd would become as interesting an issue as the 2nd!

(Of course, the gummint will be claiming they were “welcomed”)

Now there’s a thought.
Probably too dangerous though.

Oh that pesky Bill of Rights again!

The Bill of Rights was “abrogated” December 31, 2012 at midnight in secret under the passage of the National Defense Authorization bill.

We now live in a police state.

Probably because they don’t replicate the middle east as well as Texas.

Part of the operation will take place on the big ranch, the mountains on the northern end of the ranch have some pretty rough terrain. Unless there is considerable damage we’ve given them open access without compensation. Since we have allot of drilling and oilfield activity our gates and roads are better suited for larger vehicles if needed. Plus as large as the ranch is they can operate pretty much unnoticed by the public. If they allow me to I’ll try and get photo’s and video of some of the activity.

United States Constitution:

Amendment III: No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.[5]

Just in the first few paragraphs bring questions:

Mayor said “contracts SUPPOSEDLY offered to Big Spring homeowners”. What does “supposedly” mean? He’s not sure they were offered contracts? Or were they coerced?

Mayor said “but I don’t think we’re going to have people kicked out of their homes or [military personnel] knocking on doors in the middle of the night,” he said.

He doesn’t THINK the military is going to kick down doors?

Mayor said “residents will not be “forced out of their homes” to accommodate troops during the large-scale military exercise”. So, I assume it was discussed.

If our military needs urban warfare training, Big Spring, TX is not the place to get it. Thee are more coyotes and rattlesnakes than people….which might be an interesting environment for city boys to be crawling around in.

Well, the Third Amendment is one they haven't really shat upon yet.
