I'm not sure I buy the 5 miles in 20 minutes in full gear.
Ummm, that's not that hard. Well when I was a young Troop anyway. Now as a 50 something retiree....
-—Training reportedly includes a 36-mile march in 12 hours and a five-mile run in 20 minutes in full gear.——
Maybe he meant kilometers instead of miles...still a little hard to believe...
GROM should be on the list.
There is such a fine line separating these teams in terms of ability it’d probably be safer to say that you have about four tied for first place and four tied for second.
The authors glaring omission of the U.S. Army Special Forces AKA: Green Berets not only from the top units but the number one spot shows a complete lack of in depth knowledge and understanding of the training and missions of these units. I wonder if he ever heard of Delta Force?
The Scots have a man or two who can take care of business. And be sure to say nice words about the Australian SAS.
Just a suspicion - definitely no knowledge!
In that light, I would say that the best of the best is a group you have never heard of but really want at the point when the excrement hits the air circulating device! "As George Orwell pointed out, people sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." [Richard Grenier - 1993 Washington Times]
If they think the Rangers are not even in the top 8, they must have never faced them.
I’m sure these are all tough, very tough guys. That said, you really don’t want to be what the Marines are looking for. Track record and all that.
Five four minute miles? Not likely. Five kilometers (3.1 miles) maybe. When I was in my late 30s-early 40s I used to average low 17 minute times for 5K, with a personal best of 16:48, and I'm not highly talented. So I can see elite troops trained to their max doing a 20 minute 5K in full gear.
German GSG9...?
Active Duty/Retiree ping.
I remember reading about the Turkish soldiers During the Korean War they were excellent at hand to hand fighting, but an unusual characteristic of them was they’re ability to heartily thrive as prisoners in North Korea.
Hung out with a former High School acquaintance after he’d served as a SEAL.
“Un-perturbable”: is a very impressive quality.
