Redwood City Car Wash Does The Job With Just 1 Cup Of Water During California Drought
CBS San Francisco ^ | May 11, 2015

A Redwood City car wash is taking water conservation during California’s drought, cleaning cars with just one cup of water.

“We do use a cup of water. When you say waterless, people start thinking ‘hey, where’s the lubrication?’ So, there is water, but only a cup,” Eco Green Auto Clean owner Anton VanHappen said.

The car wash is located in the high tech haven of Silicon Valley, but uses low tech solutions to savewater, like spray bottles instead of hoses, and customers appreciate it.

“With our drought going on, this is gonna be the best thing since sliced bread,” Tesla owner Gail Rossetti said.

The nearly waterless wash will set drivers back $35 for a full service.

I can buy a case of 24 Distilled Water Bottles for $3.99 at CVS. Add some Soap for about .50 cents and I’m over $30.00 in the Green (so to speak). You can also get One Gallon Bottles for a Buck each.

When the Water Nazis pull up, I’ll show them the empty Bottles and see what they come up with. LOL

They must be using Secoterg, the "waterless cleaner that soaks up and absorbs grease and dirt in a twinkling. One ounce of water will rinse eight square feet [...] surface clean as clean. Buy Secoterg. Secoterg just cleans it right, [...] does away with water waste" Can anyone guess the reference?

“The cars leave with lots of scratches....”

No kidding. Wouldn’t even come close to cleaning a car here in Colorado after driving it around in filthy snow for a couple of weeks. And yeah, at that point, washing like that you’re pretty much talking about destroying the paint job.

Maybe cars don’t just don’t get very dirty in southern California.

I bet their customers get 1/4 of one square of toilet paper to wipe
with in the restroom. My god, it's utopian bliss!

There is so much dust off the mountains and the desert. My car really needs a wash every week. If you skip the car washing too much, the dirt will remove the paint.
What it would look like.

I see plenty of cars like that here in NW OH. Figured they went through the car wash a couple thousand times too many.

Thanks for the reminder of how horribly bad television has gotten over the past several decades. Glad I stopped watching it years ago.

Are the car washers babes in bikinis, like they are around here? There are two car washing places that has babes in bikinis washing, drying and detailing your car.

” If you skip the car washing too much, the dirt will remove the paint.”

Indeed. I wash even when the roads haven’t been entirely cleared of dirty, refreezing snow because of that, but sometimes they’ll be deeply covered for quite a while so washing then doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
