Charlotte does not mean “petite and feminine.” It’s the feminine form of Carl, “man,” specifically, a male of low birth. Of course, there have been plenty of kings named Carl and Charles and Karl and Carlos, and queens named Caroline or Carlotta or Charlotte but still...

It’s a pretty name, and I like the sound, but the meaning is what it is.

Carolus Magnus or Karl der Grosse was crowned Roman Emperor in the year 800 by the pope. The word for king in several Eastern European languages (including Russian, Polish, Czech, Croatian, Hungarian, and Lithuanian) comes from the name Carolus (Charles).
